Everything Pretty Cure Fans Want in a Future Season!

Entering the 16th series of the franchise, 'Precure' has had quite the arrangements of heroines and themes to save the world from darkness. You would think they have everything covered by now, but the fans have their own ideas on what should come next in the franchise.

Some of the Heroines Who Have Fought Against the Darkness

Just recently the 16th season of Precure began airing in Japan, Star☆Twinkle Pretty Cure. This show in the magical franchise has amazed fans with a never used theme and heroes creating a show that is unlike any of its predecessors, minus the odd colour Cure and their powers. The team uses space for the theme and the first official alien Precure is on the team as Cure Milky comes from space and is on a mission to revive the Star Princesses.

With this series already shaping up to be unlike other series, the fans have come up with suggestions of other new directions the show could take in the future. Voting away, the fans have comprised a list of what they want to see and this article will cover the least voted to the most voted for the future of Precure!

14. A Precure All Stars Season!

The All Stars gathered for a special episode in Hugtto! Precure.

With so many groups of heroines, ever fan has a favourite Cure they love to see on screen. Fans do get the opportunity to see these heroines gather for great battles, most often in special movies. However, fans want an All Stars series! With over 50 Cures it would be impossible to have every episode feature them all, but there is still plenty of fun to be had in an All Star series.

The series could have all the Cures facing an imminent threat that only can be defeated by all the Cures, which would give for an epic final story arc with all the teams fighting together. But, to build to this point the series could create teams to fight the threats introduced from episode-to-episode. This could make mash up teams for an entire series, where Cures with similar powers or themes could group together to unleash ultimate forms of their power. Then they could also do the opposite, and pair characters you may not expect to work together, which would return to the original duo's power of differences making them stronger together. It is a series Toei could have unlimited fun, in terms of writing.

Upgraded forms are something that just happens now in Precure. Ever since Heartcatch Precure! (2010-2011), the team often find or gain an item that will unleash new powers and forms to make them stronger. However, only one season has really had these forms used for more than just a simple attack. The Happinesscharge Precure! (2014-2015) would use their innocent forms in combat and prove the new form was stronger than their old ones.

This is rare in Precure, as often they call on their new forms, unite together and unleash a powerful group attack. That is it. You never see them physically fighting in these forms. Fans want this to be done more, as such hype is created every year when the team's upgraded forms are leaked on the internet. It seems a shame Toei have not done more physical fighting in the powered-up forms and it really is just making the whole gimmick a little stale and boring now.

12. Sibling Cures on the Main Team

Cure Tender and Cure Fortune

Happinesscharge Precure! is again the only series to really have siblings as Precures. Futari Wa Pretty Cure Splash Star (2006–2007) did have a pair of sisters join the duo in the final battle, but their Cure forms were not what a tradition Precure looks like. In Happinesscharge there were Precure all over the world and not all these Cures were on the main Happinesscharge team. Cure Fortune was a member of the team and her older sister was freed from the Precure Graveyard. This allowed her to become Cure Tender once again, but she never joined her sister on the team. Instead, she headed away from Japan to fight in a different country. Then there was also a pair of sisters fighting in Hawaii in the series, and they did feature in an episode, but they also never joined the main team.

With the show having young girls forming magical teams to fight evil, you would think a pair of sister had been on the main team by now. Well, with 16 years and counting, so far no main team has had a pair of sisters fighting together. There have been pairs who have held childhood long friendships and perhaps consider each other sister, or at least related, but does that count? Not really. Come on Toei, fans want a pair of sisters fighting together in the main team.

11. A Prequel Series to an Already Existing Series

The Original Go! Princess Precure

With so many series, it is no surprise that a few of the teams have discovered that they are simply the latest heroines to use the powers they use to fight evil. Heartcatch Precure!, Happinesscharge Precure!, Go! Princess Precure (2015–2016) and Kirakira Precure a la Mode (2017–2018) all made it clear that the Cures in the show were living up to victories of past teams. These automatically open up options for series that could have new characters come in and tell their story in the fight against darkness.

Then you also have events prior to series that offer stories yet to be told. It is apparent that Cure Princess opened Axia and unleashed evil on the world, which led to Cure Tender's defeat and Cure Fortune taking her place. There is a prequel ready to happen for Happinesscharge Precure! Then Heartcatch Precure! also had Cure Flower and her original victory over Dune followed by how Yuri became Cure Moonlight to find her father. These alone offer easy stories that fans would love to see played out. While Toei has never offered hope they may make a prequel series, it is obvious there are plenty of options for them to choose from if they decide to.

10. The Biggest Team Yet! Seven Precures!

The Six Cures of Kirakira Precure a la Mode

Ever since it started out with just two heroines fighting the darkness, in Futari Wa Pretty Cure (2004–2005), the show has grown and added more heroines within the teams. The most common formula is a starting team of three being joined by a fourth heroine mid-season. But they have played with these numbers, from two becoming three and then four, to a starting lineup of five. This is one part that always makes the series interesting, as fans know what they start with will not be all they see in the show.

Kirakira Precure a la Mode currently holds the record, with the original five being joined by a sixth member. Fans loved this large team of heroines and want an even larger team in the future. While it may sound difficult, the franchise Power Rangers has now had a season with up to 10 Rangers fighting together. So Toei should be able to cope with seven Cures on a single team.

9. A Series to Have Only One Cure Until Mid-Season

Cure Echo fights alone!

Every single season of Precure has had two or more Cures as a basic starting line-up. Sometimes it will be two awakening in the first episode and sometimes it will take 5/6 episodes before all the core starting team is awakened. This is the formula Precure has operated under since its conception. Well, fans would like a change to that and for a series to have only one Cure, until she is joined by comrades mid-season.

It is an interesting idea, as the core message of Precure is friendship. With a single heroine, they could address how some find it difficult to make friends, but the heroine could slowly start building in confidence and making some friends during the first half of the season. In keeping with friendship and its power as a theme, her new friends could then become her comrades mid-season. So far, only a few Precure have fought solo, and they have either been Cures who's stories never played out on screen or were movie exclusive Cures. Perhaps Toei could have a series truly focused on changing yourself and how to make friends.

8. A Series Starting up with Only Two Cures

The Original Duo of Cure Black and Cure White

The first series of the franchise had only two heroines, Cure Black and Cure White. Since then, very few have kept to this number when starting up. Futari Wa Pretty Cure Splash Star, Heartcatch Precure!, Suite PreCure♪ (2011-2012) and Maho Girls Precure! (2016–2017) are the only series, to date, to follow Black and White with just two Cures. But all of these series, excluding Splash Star, added more Cures as the series progressed. Now, it is far more common for three to five Cures being in the initial team and fans want a change to this.

The fundamentals behind this are is simple, you get greater character development with just two heroines. While some of the proceeding series have had exciting stories, themes and villains for the heroines to combat, you just get to know these heroines less when there are five of them. Cure Black and Cure White are still among the all-time fan favourite Cures and the simple reason being, fans got to know them better than any other heroines from the franchise. Toei should consider more series with fewer members to allow for greater character development on screen.

Precure are typically always female, with only a couple of male characters gaining access to the magical powers the girls tap into. The last season, Hugtto! Precure (2018-2018), was the first to have a male character from the series transform for an episode into a Precure. Maho Girls also saw their male fairy partner get the same opportunity during their movie. But that is only two male Cures for a single transformation compared to the current number of 59 female Cures.

Perhaps Toei could create a future series where the girls encounter a team of male heroes who are the male counterparts of the Precure. The two teams could work together through the series and if the series was a big success, it could result in a spin-off franchise of male heroes fighting the forces of darkness. Toei has been made aware that they have young boys watching the show as much as young girls, so they could be thinking of a way to cash in on that market further. Male Cures in their own show would be an easy way to achieve this. It could even result in the male and female shows crossing-over for special episodes and movies.

6. A Series with No Mid-Season Cures

Smile Precure was the last season with no mid-season Cures.

The formula for the series is pretty predictable now. A group of girls start off fighting the forces of evil, the evil gets stronger or a member of the evil team defects and a new Cure will join the team between episodes 20-25. Every year fans know this is going to happen, and even with only four episodes aired of Star☆Twinkle PreCure, the fifth member Cure Cosmo has already been leaked through the merchandise.

The original series started off with a single pair, but in the sequel series Futari Wa Pretty Cure Max Heart (2005-2006) they did gain a third member. The second set of heroines in Splash Star remained as a duo, up until the series finale where they were joined by two additional Cures for the final fight. Yes! Precure 5 (2007-2008) followed the same as the original duo, with the first five in the first season and a 6th member joining in their sequel series Yes! Precure 5 GoGo (2008-2009). So far, only Smile Precure (2012-2013) has had no add-on members join the team during the show. Toei do need to surprise fans and do this once again, as the extra mid-season Cures are becoming as stale and boring as the upgraded forms.

5. Unused Themes for the Heroines

The themes behind the teams are always changing.

The themes behind Precure are much like Power Rangers, as each team will be powered by a new source and have an underlining message running through the season. Already in the first 16 years, we have seen themes repeated in Precure. Thankfully, Star☆Twinkle PreCure has given fans a new theme with space and art playing prominently in the show. But fans still want more that is new.

While Toei does aim to keep the themes very feminine, they are perhaps forgetting that girls can like things just as much as a boy, when it comes down to the fundamentals. Girls can like themes using cars, dinosaurs, and sports like boys, it would only promote gender fluidity between what can be classed for boy and what is classed for girls. Perhaps Toei could look into some of these themes in their future seasons, I personally would love to see a magical girl team powered by dinosaurs!

4. Crossovers with Other Anime Franchises

Cure Lemonade and Cure Sunshine making new friends.

Admit it, you have a television show or a movie that you would love to see crossover with another. Well, Precure fans feel the same way and want to see their magical heroines join forces with other anime heroes. While a series like this is near impossible to happen, it could be done easily through an OVA or movie special for the fans of the shows.

There are so many magical girl anime shows that there are some natural choices to be chosen. Sailor Moon (1992-1997), Cardcaptor Sakura (1998-200) and even Cutie Honey (1973-1974) all offer good options. But some fans have said they would love bolder choices to be made, such as Natruto (2002-2007) and Dragonball (1986-) to be the franchise that crosses paths with the Precures. While it is unlikely to happen, we can hope Precure continues for long enough to enable Toei to consider actually making this a reality.

3. A Sequel Series to an Already Existing Series

Yes! Precure 5 GoGo is one of the only sequel series in the franchise.

Toei stated years ago that every series of Precure would forever be a standalone series which would follow a group for a single series before moving on to a new set of heroines. This is clearly a wrong move by the company as fans obviously want to see more of their favourite teams. So far only Futari Wa Precure and Yes! Precure 5 are the only series to get a second season and carry on the adventures of the heroines.

Some of the existing shows have clear sequel series waiting to happen. Go! Princess Precure is an obvious one, as Dyspear said despair could never truly be defeated. Heartcatch Precure! even ended with Tsubomi's little sister clutching the Heartcatch Perfume ready for her adventure. Toei could easily revisit some of these past shows in new series, and give their creative teams time to come up with brand new content for a new team later in the franchise.

2. A Change to the Colours Used by the Heroines

The Five Most Common Colours in Precure

Every season fans know there will be a Pink Cure, Blue Cure, and Yellow Cure. From there, the additional colours are most commonly Red and Purple, and sometimes they get brave and use Green or White. Fans are tired of these obvious colours being used, and would like to see some changes.

Some fans have said they would like more Green Cures and White Cures, but some even said they want colours never used before. Brown and Grey are two colours never sported by a Cure and there has only been one Black and Orange Cure. The colours need to be mixed up for a single season and what order they are added to the team. Perhaps a starting lineup of Green, White and Orange could later be joined by a Pink and Blue Cure, if Toei were to try I am sure they could come up with some cool colour combos within the team.

1. Not Another Pink Cure Leader

All the Leaders of the First 15 Years of Precure

Ever since the franchise started, the Cure with the most pink in her outfit leads the team. Even Cure Black, who's primary colour was black had pink as her secondary colour. It is one of the stereotypes of the franchise, much like how the Blue Cure is typically the smartest on the team. Fans are finding this predictable colour for the leader is becoming tiresome.

Many suspect the next obvious colour for the leader to be Blue, which may be too obvious. Perhaps with White Cures being few and far between, a White Cure leading her team would be the safest choice for Toei to go with. Maybe they could finally give Cure Echo her own series and a team of Cures to find to save the world. With them constantly looking for new things to bring to Precure, surely a leader that isn't pink is on the card for the franchise's future and with all the things fans want from the franchise, this one is not a difficult one to pull off.

What would you like to see in future Precure shows?
