'Fear the Walking Dead'

Frank Dillane made me hooked.

I didn't used to like zombie movies or television shows. I tried to watch The Walking Dead but couldn't seem to get into it like all my friends did. I watched World War Z and liked it a lot, even though it wasn't like the book. I'm not one to usually complain when the book and movie don't match; I understand creative differences as such. I decided, one day, to watch Z Nation, and that one really piqued my interest. One day while scrolling through the TV listings, I came across Fear The Walking Dead, but I didn't put two and two together on that one at all. I didn't bother reading the show description. I thought it was a documentary on why people are scared of a zombie apocalypse or something.

Then, one day on Hulu, I saw it again with the show image, and once again my curiosity was piqued. Of course I decided to watch it. The pilot episode had me hooked, and that is something very hard to do. It usually takes a friend forcing me to watch something for many, many episodes to finally draw me in like this. The very beginning, when I first saw the character of Nick, played by Frank Dillane, I thought he was hot. Even though he was/is an addict, something about him sucked me in. His face looked so familiar and I couldn't figure out why. I had to look him up. I didn't know at that moment what his name was, so I had to Google the cast list to find out who Nick was. After that, I had to look up Frank. Who would have guessed that he was the same boy that played teen Tom Riddle AKA Voldemort from Harry Potter? He is so grown up now. Somehow, I find myself obsessed with the man. I am watching the series almost religiously.

(SPOILER ALERT for anyone who doesn't know)

A boy out there on his own, suffering from addiction, waking up one day to his friend/girlfriend turned and eating someone else, running away to safety only to get hit by a car and taken to the hospital, his family able to bring him home only to have the world burn around them. They get separated so many times, but always seem to find each other. I know how the third season ends, and I really hope there is some way for Nick to survive and for everyone to be able to reunite again. So much has happened from the pilot episode to now. It would be heartbreaking for Nick to come to an end. I really feel like, if it weren't for his character, I wouldn't enjoy the show at all. There is a real story-line going on in this spinoff series, enough that I may try giving the original another try, but FTWD right now is my poison of choice.

If you haven't watched it and you are into zombie flicks, I would HIGHLY recommend this show.
