It's been a few months of waiting for the Tournament of Power to commence on Dragon Ball Super but we're quickly approaching the tournament's start. Goku and his teammates have assembled, but have failed to gather up the 10 members needed to compete. Buu was expected to be the tenth member and had already begun training for the tournament when he spontaneously fell asleep. And according to his caretaker Hercule, he won't wake up for at least two months. So with the tournament about to begin, Goku is apparently going to reach out to one of his long standing foes: Frieza.

The latest episode of Dragon Ball Super concluded with Goku coming to the realization that one capable combatant has been under his nose the whole time. He just didn't expect that person to be Frieza. But now that Goku is set on recruiting Frieza, he has quite a task ahead of him.

If you don't recall, Frieza's last encounter with Goku and the rest of the Z-fighters didn't end on the best terms. Their conflict ended with Frieza being put back into his hellish prison which means he probably won't be too happy with Goku, nor will he be willing to participate in the Tournament of Power. Some could argue that Frieza will compete regardless of his own motivations because of his imposing erasure. But those fans are forgetting Frieza is quite psychotic and has no care for his own life. As long as Frieza gets his revenge, he will betray anyone to meet those ends. That said, Frieza will probably accept Goku's offer to join the tournament but only for an opportunity to strike Goku down.

Will Frieza Betray His Comrades From Universe 6 or Turn Over a New Leaf?

To be fair, it's seems obvious that Frieza will betray Goku. Frieza may even be offered asylum by another universe to betray his comrades, giving him even more reason to lash out against Goku. Then again, Goku has surpassed the level he fought Frieza at last time, meaning any outburst from Frieza would likely be met by Goku and the others sending Frieza back to Hell without much resistance from Frieza. Plus, we can't fail to mention that Frieza is for all purposes, still dead.

Frieza may be granted a temporary leave to enter the Tournament of Power but it'll likely only be temporary. There's a precedent for dead characters receiving a temporary leave from the afterlife in the #DragonBall universe, meaning Frieza can return under similar pretenses. If so, his leave would likely be tied to a Kai granting him that reprieve. But in the scenario of Frieza doing something to sully that agreement, he could be instantly sent back to Hell. Giving us reason to believe Frieza will be on his best behavior or face being sent back to Hell.

Nevertheless, it seems like a bad idea to recruit Frieza. He's shown that his personal ambitions cloud his judgement and Frieza definitely has the history to back up the claim of potentially betraying the rest of his team, even if his own existence is in jeopardy.

Dragon Ball Super airs Saturdays on Funimation TV.
