Is This What Sansa Meant When She Mentioned The Lone Wolf In Season 7 Teasers For ‘Game Of Thrones’?

Game of Thrones Season 7 is quickly coming to a close, and with only two episodes remaining all eyes are on the impending wars between Jon Snow and the White Walkers, and Queen Daenerys versus Queen Cersei. Other than the mysterious Dragonpit brawl and the upcoming flaming sword of Beric Dondarrion, there's very little left from the teaser trailer that fans haven't seen in Season 7.

Yet, with everything we have seen so far in this shortened season, one important Sansa moment that could spell danger for one particular Stark still has the potential to change everything.

At the end of the teaser trailer, while flashing through scenes set north of the Wall, Sansa says the following:

When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives.

Those cryptic words imply that Sansa is aware of something dreadful happening to a wolf, likely a member of the Stark family. As it is with everything in Westeros, the explanation always runs deep.

So what could ansa be talking about?

The obvious interpretation is that Jon Snow dies, again. In the latest preview for Episode 6, we see Jon Snow and his merry band of misfits trudging deep into the winter wind only to be surrounded by an army of wights. Considering the scenes that flashed across the screen during the #WinterIsHere teaser trailer released last summer, we all would assume that Sansa is talking about Jon.

It makes sense that Jon could be the lone wolf in Sansa's words, but with all the build up to learning of Jon's Targaryen lineage, it seems unlikely that he would die so suddenly as the lone wolf. But, thinking big picture, Sansa's words are also a clever callback to something Ned Stark said before he lost his head. Back in Season 1, Ned was speaking with Arya after the events leading up to Joffrey taking the throne and how she hates her sister.

Let me tell you something about wolves, child. When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives. Summer is the time for squabbles. In winter, we must protect one another, keep each other warm, share our strengths. So if you must hate, Arya, hate those who would truly do us harm.

Throughout the books, George R.R. Martin references the 'lone wolf dies but the pack survives' phrase multiple times, so it's clear that Sansa's words have a poignant meaning.

Since the Starks have reunited at Winterfull (sans Jon Snow as he wages war North of the Wall), perhaps these words are spoken to Littlefinger about how his attempts to drive a wedge between Sansa and Arya will not work anymore. Sansa could be stressing the importance of family sticking together through the winter, especially after two brothers have died, another is a three-eyed raven, yet another brother (cousin?) has been killed and resurrected to fight a horde of zombie snowmen, and your sister is now a faceless assassin - it seems that finding some semblance of unification could be essential to surviving what's coming.
