James Gunn Confirms There Will Be a 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3...' But It Might Be Without Him

As we approach the premiere of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, every aspect of the movie is getting dissected to a minute degree. From the major intro of Ego the Living Planet to Ayesha's potential connection to Adam Warlock, everything is being looked into. Even the director of the movie, #JamesGunn, is being questioned left and right from news sources attempting to get insider information on the movie.

Regardless of their efforts, Gunn has kept quiet on the major plot details of #GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol2, Gunn did offer a bit of insight on what's to follow GOTG2 in an interview with Complex.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 will happen.

In the interview, Gunn makes a soft announcement of a #GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol3 being made. However, what he isn't certain of is whether or not he'll return to direct the third installment. Here's what Gunn had to say about it:

"There will be a Guardians 3, that’s for sure."

"We’re trying to figure it out. I’m trying to figure out what I want to do really, that’s all it is. I got to figure out where I want to be, what I want to spend the next three years of my life doing. You know, I’m going to make another big movie; is it the Guardians or something else? I’m just going to figure it out over the next couple of weeks."

While Gunn's comments do confirm a third Guardians film being made, there is no indication of when that might happen. #Marvel currently has a number of movies lined up until 2020 so it would most likely be another three years before Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 could have an expected release date.

Nonetheless, given that Gunn's statements were capped off with his reveal that he has to make a decision within the next few weeks, it gives us a timeline. At the moment, it appears as though there will be more cosmic adventures within the #MCU not long after the untitled Avengers 4.

What could the third 'Guardians' movie be about?

Most people assume the MCU would return its focus to more earthbound conflicts after the #InfinityWar but it looks like there'll be more exploration of space in GOTG3. Their next adventure may open up even more cosmic pieces of the Marvel universe, all of which seem to tie in to Adam Warlock.

Warlock hasn't been confirmed for a spot in the MCU but he may show up at some point with more cosmic adventures being at hand. He's been known to travel the expanse of the Marvel universe so it shouldn't be a surprise to see Warlock show up in GOTG3, if not earlier—perhaps even #GOTG2?

For now, the only real information we have to ponder over is Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.3 being in the works. We should keep an eye out for any commentary made by Gunn. He always levels with his fans regarding Guardians news so any real information on a third chapter will probably come from him.
