Are you looking for a family activity that is not only affordable, but entertaining for all ages?

Look no further than Rochester, Minnesota where the Second Annual NerdinOut Con is set to take place with two fun-filled days of pop culture and celebrity appearances.

My teens and I had the opportunity to attend last year's event after learning it was taking place just a few hours from Wisconsin. As avid followers of all things related to comic book shows and movies, we decided to make the trip out to Rochester to get our geek fix.

I’ve never been to that particular convention center, but it was easy to locate and find a place to park my vehicle. Once my boys and I entered the building, we were greeted by the friendly volunteers that offered to help us with any questions about the day's festivities.

The showroom floor had several aisles of vendors with everything from collectible toys to wearable art. The food selection gave attendees a variety of options to choose from. The reasonably priced menu even allowed my pickiest eater to find an item he liked eating.

In between looking through the merchandise, and grabbing a bite to eat, my teens and I had the chance to attend several celebrity panels. I must say, the talent for NerdinOut Con’s first event, was pretty impressive!

There was no shortage of on-screen and voice actors in attendance. My kids and I were excited about seeing two celebrities in particular: Ming Chen from AMC’s Comic Book Men and Sean Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy.

Since I was there to do media coverage, I got to meet Ming Chen who was no stranger to giving hugs. He was more than glad to answer a few questions for me. The topic of discussion was his Funko Pop collection and how many pop culture conventions he’s attended that year alone.

After my interview with Ming, my teens made their way over to Sean Gunn’s booth where he was taking pictures with fans of his work, and doing autographs. One of my boys made sure to bring in his Kraglin Funko Pop for Sean to sign. Even if you didn’t have something for guests to sign, they provided a variety of headshots of the characters they played on TV or the big screen.

Overall, the experience from my first NerdinOut Con was an enjoyable one.

My teens weren’t even to our vehicle when they already started to discuss plans for returning back for next year’s convention. We attend pop culture events all the time. The fact they were talking about something that was taking place months from now, means they had a blast!
