Hidden or not

Recently, I have started critiquing TV shows and movies. I have started to explore different genres of entertainment. Here is a list I compiled of TV shows and movies on Netflix that are a must see. Some of them have not reached popularity yet.

  1. Mindhunter—the series is based on the origins of behavior science used by the FBI to study serial killers in the 1970s and 80s. This show gives an in-depth analysis of what it was like to work for the FBI. It is a fascinating exploration of how police procedures came to be. All of the serial killers in the show are based on real people. It is interesting to see how many things have changed in the system since the 1970s.
  2. Russian Doll—the series is about a woman who has to relive one day over and over again. Sounds simple and the plot has been done before. However, Russian Doll stands out because of its dark humor and aspects to the supernatural realm.
  3. Bloodline—the series revolves around a family of siblings each carrying a secret. Sounds like something that has been done before. However, as the secrets unload, the more stressful the series becomes. If you think you have got it figured out, I promise you, you do not. It is stressful, but well worth the panic attack.
  4. A Series of Unfortunate Events—brings me back to my childhood when I read the entire series multiple times. This show follows three orphans and their adventure to escape Olaf. I was a little worried when I heard this was going to be a TV show because I was a huge fan of the books. I was even more worried when I heard that Neil Patrick Harris would be playing Olaf. For the most part, the TV series followed the books and Neil Patrick Harris was surprisingly a wonderful Olaf. He really embraced the character! Well done!
  5. Atypical—is a charming coming-of-age series about an individual with autism. It depicts the challenges he faces every day along with his parents. While it is education, it also is full of humor. This show is a heartfelt one and I was devastated that there was not another season to follow. Hopefully they can create a spin off or another show that is just as good.
  6. Always Be My Maybe—a cute romantic comedy the depicts what a real-life relationship can look like. It shows a woman with a powerful career battling between her career and love. This movie can empower women around the world that they can have a great career and do not have to always be “the house wife.”
  7. Wine Country—a movie about women getting older and taking a vacation. The movie shows women handling stressful situations within their own life and how they come together to support each other. Women power! This movie is humorous but also very real.
  8. Then Came You—a movie about a young girl who has cancer. Like other movies about cancer, it is dramatic and heartwarming. If you are not one for sappy movies, probably stay away from this one. However, it shows that every day should be lived to the fullest because we do not know what life will bring. Always practice gratitude.
  9. Grace and Frankie—this series is becoming more popular. It revolves around two older women who found out that their husbands were gay. For each other. Don’t worry, that was not a spoiler. Grace and Frankie become friends and we see their many adventures together. This show reminds us that even as we get older, we can still experience life.
