Season 2 poster from Netflix

Netflix debuted the long-awaited second season of Stranger Things on October 27. The series premiered to roughly 15 million views of the premier episode and an additional 4 million per episode. With rave reviews, staggering numbers, higher production value, character additions and much more, it is almost guaranteed that Stranger Things will in fact see a third season. With a couple characters that still need a bit more explanation and development and an ominous ending to season two, here are a few events that may take place in season three. Spoilers to follow for anyone yet to see season two.

Jane (Eleven) comes to Hawkins Middle School.

As we all know, Jane (formerly Eleven) has been adopted by Hopper and received her first kiss from Mike at the middle school dance, so what could possibly come next? Jane will become a student along side Mike, Dustin, Will and Lucas. With the adoption papers in Hopper's hands and his attempts at making her a "normal" girl, school seems like a predictable step in doing so, but Jane will be far more than an "average" student.

Papa comes home.

Dr. Brenner aka Papa was referenced a lot in season two by more than one character. With the doorway to the upside down presumably being closed by Eleven, his lab being shut down and a lot of truths being made public, Papa may come home to Hawkins to reattempt to open the doorway and recapture Eleven.

008 will resurface.

Eleven's psychic "sister" 008 (Kali) was on a mission to see that anyone that had anything to do with Dr. Brenner's experiments reaped punishment when she was introduced. As it appeared, her mission was nowhere near complete when she and Eleven were reunited and she was in a bit of trouble upon Eleven's return to Hawkins, so it would only seem right that she come to Hawkins in search of her "sister," we see her in other cities exacting her revenge or Eleven senses her distress and tracks her down again to help. It seems very unlikely that they would introduce such a powerful character that holds a dear place in Eleven's life and that would be on such a mission that they take her away and let everyone forget about her after just a few episodes.

Joyce and Hopper's relationship changes.

For the past two seasons, Hopper and Joyce have been close. Hopper was one of the only people to believe her about Will and they have a history that dates back to their high school days that both of them very fondly referenced quite a few times. It seem that season two pushed the pair even closer together with Hopper being there for Joyce during yet another traumatic event, the possession of Will and the death of her boyfriend. Even the way the two looked at each other was a bit more intimate this season than in season one. Could there be some lingering high school feelings or could shared trauma have pushed these long time friends much closer? Couple the obvious feelings with Hopper now being a single father to a girl, they may be spending a bit more time together and their relationship could see a massive shift into something more.

It may be the end of the road for Steve.

In season one, Steve was probably one of the most unlikable characters on the show, but in season two, he has transformed into a series favorite. Besides bearing a striking resemblance to a young Kurt Russell, Steve won the hearts of the audience when he stepped up to help Dustin and the group with their "Demodog" situation. He proved that there was much more depth to him behind the perfectly quaffed hair and a bad attitude and quickly became the babysitter of the season. Admit it, after this turn of events, you felt horrible for him after Nancy's drunken outburst and running off with Jonathan. Sadly, with many shows dealing with a dark nature, once a character makes an arch like Steve has (from hated to celebrated), it's not long before they meet an untimely death. Perhaps he will continue to take his babysitting duties seriously and when danger arises again, he will die a hero.

Billy may be darker than everyone thought.

One of the characters we were introduced to in the new season was Billy. Billy has taken Steve's place as most disliked character on the show with the way that he treats his step-sister Max, his obvious dislike for Lucas and the group, along with many other things. He may be more than just the new Bully; evidence points to him either working for Brenner or possibly even having ties to the upside down. His family is obviously off, his explosive relationship with his sister and abusive father make for some eyebrow raises, and they don't seem like a real family. He really dislikes Lucas; this dislike could be due to ignorance or he knows that he and his group know how to stop seemingly anything that comes from the upside down and they know the truth about Brenner and his work. Don't be overly surprised if he becomes the new flayer.

Enter Flayer 2

Will was a spy for the shadow monster for the majority of season two, but Joyce and company forced the entity out of him. When the being left Will, it flew out of the cabin as a puff of black smoke (resembling a Dementor from Harry Potter) into the night and its final destination was never revealed. If the doorway to the upside down was closed before it could return home, it is likely that it is still lurking in the shadows of Hawkins looking for a new host. Season three will most likely see the rise of a new flayer and it will serve as the catalyst for the new threat that will rise.

A Darker Hopper

After responding to a calls of poisoned pumpkins, Hopper begins investigating a possible cause for the rotting of plants in a rural area of Hawkins, and the answers he was seeking were in a series of drawings that Will created. The drawings turned out to be a map of vines from the upside down. When he goes to investigate, Hopper finds himself entrapped in the vines and struggling for survival and is rescued by Joyce and Bob. The last character we saw trapped in these vines was Will in season one and he ended up playing host to a spy, so could Hopper be in for a bit of the same? Don't be surprised if he isn't seen spewing slugs into a sink at some point in the coming season.

True Sight for Dustin

A fan favorite for two seasons running, the comic relief and new hair product connoisseur Dustin may be the next victim of true sight. At the close of the season, Dustin is seen dancing with Nancy appearing to be just fine, and while he appears outwardly okay, he did inhale some of the spores from the upside down that both Will and Hopper were exposed to. This could mean that Dustin will have a darker role coming up or he will have the nightmarish visions of the upside down and its inhabitants known as true sight as Will did in season two; he already has a pretty active imagination, so this could spell disaster.

These are all just speculations as to coming events based on observations made during season two. What are your season three predictions?
