Team Marvel - The Starting 11 Football Team
My football (soccer) team made up of Marvel super heroes
When superheroes are not busy saving the world, they need to relax and blow off some steam. How better than playing the beautiful game. After extensive trials, my 16 man squad has been selected with some controversial decisions made!
Team Marvel
1. Goalkeeper- Spiderman
It would be difficult to get past Spiderman. Not only are his reflexes on another level, but any ball that would be out of reach would be webbed up before goal line technology could be triggered. Failing that, Parker could just spin a web around the goal mouth—it would need an extremely powerful shot to break through that!
2. Right Back- Iron Man
Imagine it. Last minute. Marvel on the attack. Iron Man makes a run/fly from deep overlapping and delivers a pinpoint cross. When it comes to defending, he can blow any quick thinking attacker out the game with a snap of his fingers.
3. Left Back- Black Panther
A solid player- great defensively and quick enough to get up the field and support with a bite in the attack. So good, nobody would see him coming.
4. Defensive Midfielder- Hulk
Who else to break down the play than Mr. Smash himself. We just need to hope he can last 10 minutes without getting sent off.
5. Centre Back- Captain America (c)
An obvious choice. The first Avenger's dedication to defending the cause sees him as a no nonsense defender willing to put his body on the line. The shield in front of goal, he'll be able to do this all day!
6. Centre Back- Luke Cage
Not as much of a Galactico but just as good as his centre back partner, Cage is a man of few words but gets the job done. Always looking to defend what he loves and strikes fear into the opposition.
7. Right Wing- Quicksilver
And... he's gone. Genuine pace and can get up and down the wing in the blink of an eye. Can put a great cross in and get on the end of them himself.
8. Centre Midfield- Captain Marvel
Vice captain that pulls the strings in midfield. Not only important in her defensive duties, important in building attacks. Ms Versatility, there is nothing she can not do.
9. Striker- Hawkeye
Has a great eye for goal and never misses. All shots on target but be careful... he has a dark side.
10. Attacking Midfield- Scarlett Witch
A magical player, she can conjure something out of nothing. So unpredictable that at times, not even she knows what to do.
11. Left Wing- Thor
Can hammer past any defence with his lightning speed. Has been known to have put on a bit of weight recently but still shockingly effective. Knows how good he can be and sometimes looks to go off on his own yet still a very important team player. Worthy of a place in the starting 11.
Subs
12. Mr Fantastic (Goalkeeper)
Can cover the goal well and a leader from the back.
13. Groot (Centre Back)
Has few words but gets things done. Rooted in the heart of defence, looking to come back to his full strength after a terrible injury a few years back.
14. Vision (Full Back)
A composed centre back worthy of a place in the squad. Suffered a bad head injury at the end of the season but a calming influence in the dressing room.
15. Drax (Midfielder)
Can break down play and not afraid to go on the attack. A strong midfielder who is determined and headstrong. Can be rash in his decision making but makes a loyal team player.
16. Iron Fist (Midfielder)
After a difficult first season, came into his own in the second. Has a problem with sometimes leaving his position. Started off as a defender but ended up an attacking player able to punch through any defence.
17. Wolverine (Winger)
Not only a great defender but loves running forward and joining the attack. Can cut the supply lines from opposition attacks. Poor disciplinary record with at least one yellow per game for taking his shirt off.
18. Ant Man (Attacker)
Can pop out of nowhere and creep past any defence. A late comer into the team but so important in reaching the goal.
Manager: Charles Xavier
It's like he can read the other team's mind. A tactical genius with experience in coaching. A specialist in mentoring young players and helping to bring them through the ranks.
