A classic Disney theme song says to wish upon a star for your dreams to come true, and a classic Disney-themed night in America’s Ballroom sees stars dance like a dream while wishing to win the competition. Being week five, they’re almost there, but eliminations have been strange things this season. So, as you whistle while you work or whatever you’re doing, you’ve got a friend in me to show you the whole new world that was last Monday’s Disney night!

No elimination this week

Geeking Out

This season’s eliminations have been nothing short of surprises with this week’s being a mere tease! Admittedly, this makes some good build-up for Halloween night next week with the fears of anybody being part of a possible double elimination to play with. Score-snubbing jeopardies or eliminations actually happen nearly every season at some point, though this time around, having two more top-three scorers announced in jeopardy again makes me think that votes are better favoring the “dancing underdogs” in this season’s competition.

Everyone from Mary Lou and Sasha to Joe and Jenna have a lot of potential between their own progress or by saving graces. Whatever performing experience any celebrity on the show has, all of them are on square one with ballroom dancing, and every surviving contender is working hard to earn and keep their place while experiencing good nights and bad nights as they cycle each week through various challenges, themes, dance styles, and standings.

This week was Alexis’ and Alan’s turn to land in first place with a performance just as worthy of the spot, with Juan Pablo and Cheryl giving another awe-inspiring performance since week three. Second to fifth place scores are all a difference of one point this week with most of the same names from weeks prior recurring. Bobby and Joe are recovering after less-stellar performances and displeased critiques. Bobby’s enthusiasm and energy each week must be attributes endearing him to the voters, and the non-Latin dances might be more Joe’s cup of tea, as the waltz was his last good dance and his jive was an improvement upon last week.

Going into the midpoint of the season next week, the remaining couples have five more eliminations to go through before the finals. In that time I can see either the record setting straight with the remaining “budding dancers” finally nipped from the leaderboard, or the record setting precedent with at least one or two long-shot survivors to the end. However the chips fall, it will be harder each week to see any of them leave.

What's next?

Next week is the midpoint of the competition and the scary-fun Halloween-themed night! Country-themed night kicking off November will mark the start of crunch time for the remaining couples as they contend for the finals and the mirrorball trophy!
