The last few days have seen yet more drama for the DCEU. For a long time we've been hearing rumors that Ben Affleck was considering moving on from the iconic role of Batman, and anonymous sources told The Hollywood Reporter that Warner Bros. was actually considering recasting him. According to THR, one major factor against Affleck is his age, 45.

Speaking at the Warner Bros. panel at San Diego Comic-Con, however, Affleck made an immediate point of insisting that he's not going anywhere.

'Let Me Be Clear'

The Justice League assembled on the #SDCC2017 stage, and Affleck wasted no time in stepping forward to make his point. "Let me be clear," he declared, "Batman is the greatest f--king part in the world. I am thrilled to do it."

Any comic book fan would surely agree with that assessment. Created in 1939, #Batman has been a mainstay of superhero fiction ever since, and is arguably the most coveted role in Hollywood.

Of course, Affleck's role in the Batman solo film has changed a lot over the last few months. He was originally slated to write and direct, but ultimately stepped down and has been replaced by Matt Reeves. Reeves's vision is evidently very different to Affleck's, as he's already ditched the script and is working on a new treatment.

Still, Affleck insisted there's no bad blood between the two, quipping that he'd gladly be "a f--king ape" in the background for Reeves's Planet of the Apes films! Affleck went on to note that the Warner Bros. execs are behind him as well.

These Comments Won't Lay The Rumors To Rest

For all Affleck has faced these rumors head-on, the sad truth is that fans are likely to remember how many times he (and Warner Bros.) had to publicly deny that he was stepping down as writer and director of The Batman. What's more, with Warner Bros. announcing a Flashpoint film, they have an easy way to launch a soft reboot.

As fans of The Flash will know all too well, this plot will see the Scarlet Speedster rewrite history. Flashpoint would mark an ideal point to switch Batmen. The rumors aren't going to go away anytime soon.

Whatever the truth may be behind the scenes, and whether you truly believe a reboot is on the cards or not, one thing is for sure. Right here, right now, Ben Affleck truly does have "the greatest f--king part in the world." He's Batman, he's a member of the Justice League, and he plays the role like no other Dark Knight before him.
