Looking into Marvel comics, I would like to point out some of the women of the Marvel who are often forgotten despite their great power. First up is Spectrum, who is rumoured to also be introduced in Captain Marvel. We should mention that Monica Rambeau was the first female Captain Marvel and was such most of her career in the Avengers. She became Spectrum after taking on the name Photon and Pulsar.
Monica has the ability to transform herself into any form of energy within the electromagnetic spectrum including; visible light, ultraviolet radiation, electricity and gamma rays. She also has the power of intangibility, she can phase through solid matter and certain energy fields depending on their wavelengths. She has worked alongside Carol Danvers, Scarlet Witch, and Doctor Strange.
The strengths of Emma Frost; in addition to having a great range and intensity of power she also has strength of spirit and courage, which I feel was proven when she has a physic affair with Scott Summers the longtime romantic interest of Jean Grey otherwise known as Phoenix and Dark Phoenix, one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe. After finding out about the affair, Jena storms her way into Emma’s mind, stomping around in it, and forcing out memories that Emma has kept well hidden. After mentally exhausting her, Jean leaves Emma in the arms of Wolverine, lamenting over her love for Scott Summers. Among her physical powers is her ability to produce a psychic shield in her own mind or in the minds of others. She also has the ability to produce telepathic illusions in the minds of others causing them to see and experience events not occurring in reality. She also has the ability to inflict mental pain by simply touching her victim and in the same vein can heal mental trauma through a process called “mental surgery.” Many of Emma Frost’s abilities come from the ability to invade, manipulate or control one’s mind. She also has the power of psionic lightning, she can channel the ambient psionic energy in the air through a target having a physical effect. As a result, as her second mutation, Emma Frost can also take an organic diamond form, which has been compared to Colossus’ organic steel form. Though this transformation is more than just physical, when in organic diamond form, Emma’s personality is also altered, causing her to become cold-hearted and lose her empathy for others. She is also blocked from her ability to access her telepathy in her diamond form, where most of her power branches from. While in her diamond form, although left without her telepathic abilities she is not left without power, Emma gains superhuman levels of strength, with her able to lift approximately two tons. She also has superhuman stamina and durability, leaving her highly resistant to most forms of physical injury. She has withstood blows from the Hulk, and a blast from a living celestial. Her body is also resistant to temperature extremes, able to withstand temperatures as cold as -230 degrees and as hot at 7,362 degrees Fahrenheit. She is also completely self-sustaining in her diamond form, not requiring any food or water.
The last of the women I want to mention is still a bit of a mystery, Nemesis. Nemesis’ origin is a bit spotty but what we do know is that her power is unmatched and unparalleled. She possesses the power of all six Infinity Stones as that is what makes up her being, but she can wield their abilities on a greater scale due to her possession of the seventh Infinity Stone, the ego stone. She is a cosmic being that existed before the Infinity Stones were scattered across the galaxies. These are just a very few of the underrated women of the Marvel comic book universe and hopefully characters we will hopefully see soon in the MCU.
