Marvel's Netflix shows are widely viewed as some of the best superhero series currently in production. This is a darker corner of the #MCU, where the #Punisher can rampage through Hell's Kitchen; where a man can break his fist on Luke Cage's jaw;f and where we can explore the disturbing possibility that a man could use mind control to rape women at his leisure. But the crowning glory of #MarvelNetflix is sure to be 2017's The Defenders, a series that unites heroes in a desperate battle against the Hand. This eight-episode series is sure to be a hit; but who's confirmed to appear in it?

Charlie Cox is Daredevil

The Man Without Fear! Image: Netflix

Charlie Cox's Daredevil is a fan-favorite, and The Defenders picks up with him in an interesting place; Matt Murdock admitted his secret identity to Deborah Ann Woll's Karen Page, but the same secret has finally broken his partnership with Elden Henson's Foggy Nelson. Luke Cage ended with Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple intending to hire Matt to defend Luke, so we can expect Matt and Luke to already have ties of some kind when the series kicks off.

Perhaps more disturbingly for Matt, The Defenders is also set to feature the return of some key figures from his past, including Scott Glenn's Stick. The events of The Defenders are sure to be very personal for Matt.

Mike Colter is Luke Cage

The heart of the Defenders. Image: Netflix

Sure to become the beating heart of The Defenders, Mike Colter's #LukeCage already has strong ties to several other characters. He's Jessica Jones's ex, and it's likely Matt Murdock (a.k.a. Daredevil) will be hired to get Luke out of jail.

Krysten Ritter is Jessica Jones

Jessica Jones is dangerous. Image: Netflix

Jessica Jones Season 1 ended with Krysten Ritter's #JessicaJones breaking Kilgrave's neck — since then, we've had a lot of tantalizing hints that she's become a very controversial figure. No doubt many people don't believe Jessica's story, meaning that many believe this private investigator is actually a superhuman murderer. Jessica's role in The Defenders could be pretty interesting!

Finn Jones is Iron Fist

Rounding out the main four, Finn Jones's Iron Fist is still a mystery to us. We won't be introduced to the character until next year — it's going to be interesting getting to know this mystical Martial Arts master before The Defenders!

It's worth noting that, although IMDb puts Jon Bernthal's Punisher down as confirmed for a fourth role, that's not actually the case. When asked about this, Netflix head Ted Sarandos has simply replied:

"Uh... stay tuned."

Carrie-Ann Moss is Jeri Hogarth

You don't want to mess with this woman. Image: Netflix

Carrie-Anne Moss plays the role of Jeri Hogarth with skill in Jessica Jones, and has been confirmed to appear in The Defenders. Significantly, Hogarth's name was mentioned in Daredevil Season 2 — it's likely she'll be connected to Foggy Nelson. Hogarth is a fascinatingly three-dimensional character, and it's exciting to see the character return.

Deborah Ann Woll is Karen Page

The most important woman in Matt Murdock's life, Deborah Ann Woll plays the brilliant and beautiful Karen Page. Daredevil Season 2 ended with Matt revealing his secret identity to Karen, but we don't yet know how she took it. Depending on the order of release, we may actually find out in The Punisher. Still, if Karen's involved, there are sure to be fireworks!

Eka Darville is Malcolm Ducasse

Now working alongside Jessica Jones, Eka Darville's Malcolm is confirmed to return in The Defenders. We've not had any indication about the size of his role yet.

Elden Henson is Foggy Nelson

One of the first names confirmed for The Defenders was Elden Henson's Foggy Nelson. Given Daredevil Season 2 ended with Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson going their separate ways, Foggy's involvement in The Defenders is a pretty exciting development — it promises that The Defenders will change the character dynamics for Matt Murdock in some dramatic ways, setting up a new status quo for 2018's Daredevil Season 3.

Jessica Henwick is Colleen Wing

She's on her way! Image: Netflix

We're yet to be properly introduced to Jessica Henwick's Colleen Wing, but she's sure to be a hit! Colleen had a small cameo at the end of Luke Cage, and is set to play a major role in Iron Fist.

Rachael Taylor is Trish Walker

Good news! Image: Netflix

Rachael Taylor proved she was the perfect woman to play Trish Walker in Jessica Jones Season 1, and she's been confirmed to return in The Defenders. Marvel fans remain fascinated by the character's infinite possibilities; in the comics, Trish Walker is actually the superhero Hellcat! Will Marvel Netflix begin to go down this route?

Rosario Dawson is Claire Temple

She's always going to be key. Image: Netflix

Rosario Dawson's Clare Temple, inspired by the Marvel Comics character known as the 'Night Nurse', has become the connective tissue of The Defenders. She already has ties to Daredevil and Jessica Jones; she's in love with Luke Cage; and she's certain to play a part in Iron Fist. It's no surprise that Claire will play a major role, but some fans are wondering if she'll get the Coulson treatment; if her death will be what brings these disparate personalities together.

Scott Glenn is Stick

A dangerous man. Image: Netflix

Daredevil's secretive mentor, Stick's relentless war against the Hand looks set to continue in The Defenders. The first trailer for The Defenders featured a monologue from Scott Glenn's Stick, confirming his presence in the show — and heavily hinting that the Hand will be major enemies.

Simone Missick is Misty Knight

Simone Missick's Misty Knight stole the show in Luke Cage, and it's no surprise she's set to return in The Defenders! To date, set photos have hinted at Misty taking on another of Luke's exes — she's been seen with Jessica Jones in her sights!

Sigourney Weaver Is The Main Villain

Image: Summit Entertainment

At NYCC, Marvel shocked the world by announcing that sci-fi legend Sigourney Weaver will play the main villain in The Defenders. As yet, we have no information about which character she's playing; still, the news immediately caught the world's imagination!

Elodie Young is Elektra

One dangerous woman. Image: Netflix

Elodie Yung's Elektra was a hit in Daredevil Season 2, but the series ended with her death. That's not a problem for the Hand, though, and we saw them steal her body and resurrect her. To the Hand, Elektra is a being known as a 'Black Sky'. We don't yet have much information about what a Black Sky actually is, but we do know that Elektra will act as the Hand's leader. That will make her a devastating enemy for poor Matt Murdock...

For now, these are only the confirmed cast members of The Defenders — four confirmed superheroes, a strong supporting cast, and one legendary powerhouse as an as-yet-unknown supervillain. This eight-episode series is sure to be an absolute hit!
