When there is something strange in your neighbourhood, who you gonna call? Unfortunately not the boys this time, in 2016 busting ghosts seems to be a woman's work. Whilst it may be Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones stepping up to the plate to takeover the Ghostbusters, Dan Aykroyd's Dr. Raymond Stantz just can't leave the paranormal alone.

The Ghostbusters CinemaCon presentation apparently revealed Dan Aykroyd's cameo in the all female reboot of Paul Feig's dark comedy - some of you may be a little disappointed. Akyroyd's brief stint is as a cab driver who utters the famous line:

I ain't afraid of no ghosts.

Appearing in Ivan Reitman's original Ghostbusters from 1984 and 1989's Ghostbusters II, Aykroyd has been trying unsuccessfully for years to make Ghostbusters 3 a reality. The question is though, is this cab driver still Raymond Stantz, or someone else entirely? Whilst he won't play a large part in the film, Dr. Stantz's (if it is him) cameo is a perfect nod to the original 'Busters'. However, this isn't the first time Ray Stantz has film-hopped though, he briefly popped up in 1995's Casper, unable to help with the ghost problem at Whipstaff Manor.

Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts are all also rumoured to cameo (sorry Rick Moranis), but Aykroyd's is the first cameo we actually know more about. Their appearances are sure to delight hardcore fans of the original series, but we only hope that the new film distances itself from the first two enough to stand on its own.

Out with the old, in with the new 2016 vs 1989

The public have already been divided on Feig's reboot and the appearance of so many original actors are sure to add fuel to the fire. From the second the first trailer for Ghostbusters (2016) aired there have been arguments on everything from race rows to sexism and general desecration of the franchise. With both Murray and Aykroyd in support of Ghostbusters 2016, let's give it a try...if not, let's call in the Exorcist!

Ghostbusters opens on July 15th, 2016.
