Will Adam Warlock Create A Love Triangle Between Peter Quill and Gamora In 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3?'

So what's next for the Guardians Of The Galaxy franchise?

Watching Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has been one of the best experiences I've ever had at the movie theater. Now I eagerly await the arrival of Avengers: Infinity Wars to see what evil these #superheroes will face off against next.

The first two Guardians films had such an amazing story and are easily my favorite movies to come out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's difficult to imagine how #Marvel could have made them any better. The first movie brought the group together through pure friendship, while the second unraveled one of the greatest mysteries: Star-Lord's complex lineage. So what's next for the franchise?

After the coming Infinity War and the fourth film in that series, we can assume that Thanos will be dealt with, so Drax and Gamora's quest for revenge will likely come to a neat end. So what's left to explore? What we know so far is that Gamora is set to have a significant role in the next film, much like Peter did in Vol. 2.

Who will be the villain?

Thanks to one of the five post-credit scenes, we get to see how Ayesha and the Sovereign are dealing with their defeat at the hands of the Guardians — and things are not going well. Ayesha seems desperate to destroy the gang, but the usual methods are not enough, so we see she is beginning the creation of Adam Warlock.

This character might be the closest thing to Superman that Marvel has ever created and he is sure to be the most powerful character in the entire #MCU. So are we correct in assuming that the coming story will center around Adam as the instrument of Ayesha's revenge?

#AdamWarlock's introduction into the universe at this time is very interesting because it ties in to one of the last remaining plot points left for the Guardians to journey through — the unspoken thing.

Where is Peter and Gamora's relationship heading?

The entire movie dances around the elephant in the room, being Peter and Gamora's feelings for each other. Peter seems to be very interested in pursuing a relationship, but she remains skeptical and not entirely open to the idea of a romance with anyone.

However, by the end of the sequel, we see her essentially admitting that she does have feelings for Peter, but that's about it. We get a warm embrace as they watch the Ravager funeral, but we don't get a confirmation that they're now an item.

Peter references classic 1982–1993 sitcom Cheers, telling Gamora of the will-they/won't-they romance of the show's two leads. This sounds like a hint from director James Gunn that these two lovebirds have a few more hurdles to jump over before all the nookie can begin in earnest.

Adam Warlock and Gamora were together in the comics.

Something casual fans might not know is that Gamora and Peter were never a couple in the comics. Gamora's love-life in the books was pretty flimsy and only consisted of two paramours — original Nova Richard Rider and Adam Warlock.

Warlock may end up being more than a villain in Vol. 3 and might not even remain a villain for long, should he take on the more heroic role he had in the comics. Could his purpose also be to stir up trouble in paradise for Gamora and Star-Lord?

With Warlock being a prominent love interest for Gamora in the comics and her relationship with Peter sure to be the last major plot point of this trilogy, I'd expect to see both Adam and Peter vying for her affections. Why Gamora would fall for Warlock outside of him possibly being very attractive and powerful is unknown, but it would bring extra spice to the story and gift us an entertaing rivalry between Star-Lord and Warlock.
