It may seem hard to believe, but the phenomenon that was Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended 13 years ago on May 20th after 7 seasons and 144 episodes, not to mention the spin-off series Angel. Many people are still fans of the show, however, and can be seen dressed as Buffy at conventions or doing a viewing of the musical episode "Once More With Feeling". Are you a die hard Buffy fan? Think you know everything there is to know about the show? Here are some things you might not have known about the TV show.

1. Buffy was almost a witch.

Sarah Michelle Gellar was actually up for the lead of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, but turned it down for this role.

2. Ryan Reynolds could have been Xander.

He loves the show, and Joss Whedon, but he didn't want to play a guy in high school.

3. Nicholas Brendon grew up with a stutter.

He got into acting to overcome it.

4. Anthony Stewart Head was James Marsters' own Watcher.

He didn't actually have a British accent, so Anthony coached him on how to do a proper one. Originally, James was supposed to play Spike with a Texas accent.

5. Buffy has 3 different birthdays.

The show celebrates it on January 19th or around that date, but when the school records are shown one of the birthdays is October 24, 1980 and the other is May 6, 1979.

6. Angel almost become another famous caped guy

When Christopher Nolan was looking to cast someone for his upcoming Batman movie, David Boreanaz was considered for the role.

7. Sarah Michelle Gellar has a fear of cemeteries

I suppose it is a good thing that the cemeteries were built on sound stages then.

8. The Gentleman from "Hush" are based on Mr. Burns from The Simpsons.

At least their look. The episode is a fan favorite, and was awarded to Emmy nominations for writing and cinematography.

9. Warren's robot girlfriend was written for Britney Spears.

She turned down the role, however.

10. It is responsible for the revival of Doctor Who.

Russell T. Davis has stated that

“'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' showed the whole world, and an entire sprawling industry, that writing monsters and demons and end-of-the world is not hack-work, it can challenge the best. Joss Whedon raised the bar for every writer—not just genre/niche writers, but every single one of us”

After all of this time, there are still things to find astounding and new about Buffy and those involved in her universe. Now it is time to go and celebrate all those years with a marathon on Netflix.
