13 Intimidating Actors That Could Be Cast as Ghost Rider in the Upcoming Netflix Series

Marvel and Netflix are working on bringing three more characters to the small screen, and those three are expected to be Ghost Rider, Blade, and Moon Knight.

Recent reports are suggesting that we will soon get a chance to see our favorite Marvel anti-heroes come to Netflix. Moon Knight, Blade, and Ghost Rider are close to receiving their own Netflix shows, and Marvel is gifting fans with something they have been begging for ever since the first season of Daredevil.

The news got me so excited that I decided to make three lists of potential actors that could take on the three roles.

For this article I will be looking at actors to play Ghost Rider and his alter ego Johnny Blaze. We have already seen a live action portrayal of this character in 2007 by Nicholas Cage, and while the film itself was mediocre, Cage actually did a solid job as Johnny Blaze.

Ghost Rider (2007)

I will be looking for actors that can be arrogant, but also intimidating and can play a great anti-hero. Also I am going to do my best to find someone who resembles Blaze from the comics like in the picture below:

Johnny Blaze by Joe Jusko

This was a tough list to make, but in the end I think I put together some good talent, a few are going to be a bit too old, but until we see exactly what kind of Johnny Blaze Marvel wants it is hard to say what the age range for the actor will be. With all that said here we go:

13. Daniel Craig

Daniel Craig

Craig is way past his window to be able to play this role, but if Marvel did decide to make Johnny Blaze older like the Nicholas Cage adaptation then Craig is a good fit. He has turned down a two picture deal to return as James Bond, so we know he has free time. He has the look and personality to pull it off if you can get past the fact he is 48.

12. Scott Caan

Scott Caan

The son of legend James Caan has the looks for an older Johnny Blaze, and while at 39 he is not quite tipping the scale like Craig is, he still would be an older incarnation. I like the arrogant attitude he portrays and I think he could give Johnny that cool vibe that we need from him.

11. Tyler Hoechlin

Tyler Hoechlin

Hoechlin is best known for his role in the MTV show Teen Wolf, but since leaving the show he has found his way into films and shown promise as an actor. He can play intimidating and has an attitude that fits Blaze. I think this would be a good up and coming actor for Marvel to get their hands on.

10. Jack Reynor

Reynor was on the shortlist of actors considered for Han Solo so that should tell you a lot about his attitude and acting ability. He has the look of a young Johnny Blaze and I think he would make a good fit at Marvel. My only worry is if he can pull off the dark tone the Netflix shows require.

9. Jamie Campbell Bower

Jamie Campbell Bower

Bower is well known for his arrogance, especially in Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. His career has not taken off like many had hoped, but he still has talent and is a good fit for the role. I think his looks and personality mirror Johnny Blaze from the comics.

8. Garret Hedlund

Garret Hedlund

You hear his name a lot, but you may not recognize the face unless you have seen Pan or Tron: Legacy. Hedlund is a rising star and the perfect look for the character. I would not be too surprised if Hedlund makes his way into the Marvel Universe one way or another.

7. Cam Gigandet

Cam Gigandet

A Hollywood journeyman that specializes in arrogance and being the bad boy type. i will not lie to you though, one of the main reasons he is on the list is because of his look, there was something about his look that reminded me of Blaze.

6. Taylor Kitsch

Taylor Kitsch

Unfortunately for all of Kitsch's talent he has yet to put it all together and has had flops in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and John Carter. Ghost Rider could be his second chance and I think he has what it takes to do it. His range is wide and can handle all the different layers a character like Blaze has.

5. Ben Foster

Ben Foster

Two Lone Survivor actors in a row and Foster was the most impressive in it; so far he looks to have transformed himself for Warcraft and I'm excited to see him in it. He is an amazing dramatic actor that I think could fit well in the dark Netflix superhero world.

4. Ian Somerhalder

Ian Somerhalder

You know him from his Vampire Diaries fame, but Ian Somerhalder is such an entertaining actor. He has what I was looking for in Ghost Rider though, at first look you might not view him as the Spirit of Vengeance, but his acting ability is perfect for it. In Vampire Diaries he is known for not only his arrogance but his ability to be immensely intimidating. He is perfect for any anti-hero role.

3. Travis Fimmel

Travis Fimmel

Known for Vikings; Fimmel is a great intimidating actor. He has the rough look from the classic Ghost Rider comics and is a great acting fit for this character. With Vikings continuing to grow in popularity it is doubtful that he will be released from his duties from that show anytime soon, but he would be a great fit if Marvel could get him.

2. Charlie Hunnam

Charlie Hunnam

Of course Charlie Hunnam is going to be on this list; he is probably the best fit out of anyone in Hollywood for this role because of his amazing performance as Jax Teller in Son of Anarchy. That is the big issue though, it is too easy to put him on this list and it would be too repetitive for Marvel to cast him as Ghost Rider. Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to see Hunnam land this role, but it would be difficult for him to differentiate the role of Johnny Blaze from his role as Jax Teller.

1. Scott Eastwood

Scott Eastwood

He is going to be in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie, so for most people that would immediately disqualify him from any Marvel role, but I don't see it that way. As far as we can tell so far Eastwood is only playing an ordinary soldier, and while there are rumors of him playing characters from Dick Grayson to Deathstroke, it is still unproven that he is anything that important. If he is only playing an ordinary soldier then he is fair game for Marvel. Besides, DC and Marvel have always stolen actors from each other, it has happened a total of 53 times to be exact.

Eastwood has the perfect look as well as being a rising star. It would probably be tough to convince him to star in a Netflix series, but TV and Netflix are becoming big in the entertainment industry and you are seeing more stars make the jump over to those forms of media. Eastwood can portray arrogant, intimidating, and pull off the dark tone of the Marvel Netflix series.
