Anime to Watch Summer 2018

Complete Your Summer With These Exciting New Anime

My Summer isn't complete without finding some great new anime to watch! Each season has some great anime that airs and this season is no different. Here are my top picks to watch this Summer.

1. 'Back Street Girls: Gokudolls'

Recently I have noticed a trend with the amount of new anime that are airing, incorporating yakuzas and inserting them into some very strange situations where you wouldn't normally see them in. This one is no different. Back Street Girls: Gokudolls centers around three yakuzas that have failed yet again and their boss has had it with them. Their boss gives them two choices: either honorable suicide or get gender reassignment surgery and become female idols. After gruesome training to become idols, the group debuts only to find out that they are too successful and their popularity is off the charts. What could possibly lie ahead for these three 'female' idols?

2. 'Chio-chan no Tsuugakuro'

Here we have an anime with what seems as a simple story, but after watching the trailer, you will see it is something completely different. Chio-chan no Tsuugakuro starts off following nerdy high school girl, Chio Miyam, who is walking to school. Unfortunately for Chio her usual route to school takes an usual turn as each day she faces strange encounters such as biker gangs, strange conversations with friends, and death defying feats of parkour. Thus turns her usual route to school into a strange adventure each day.

3. 'Harukana Receive'

Similar to the anime Haikyuu!!, this anime also centers around the sport of volleyball and the struggles associated with the sport. Harukana Receive centers around Haruka who forms a pair with Kanata, who struggles with her short height, for a beach volleyball tournament. Convinced to work on their struggles together, they work towards entering the junior tournament to improve their beach volleyball skills while also having a great time. Considering it is a beach volleyball centered anime it does have a lot of ecchi themes to it (girls in bathing suits running around) but if you are a fan of sports anime, this is definitely something to watch.

4. 'Hyakuren no Haou to Seiyaku no Valkyria'

One of my favorite genres of anime is back with another fantastic fantasy harem centered in another world. Hyakuren no Haou to Seiyaku no Valkyria centers around Yuuto Suou, who decides to test out an urban legend with his childhood friend Mitsuki Shimoya. When he takes a selfie of himself with the local shrine's divine mirror, he is transported to a new world centered around the lore of the old Norse myths. Using his knowledge from school and his phone, he learns to adapt to this new fantasy world.

5. 'Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san'

I'm truly a sucker for these harem anime (I blame the boyfriend). This anime centers around Fuyuzora Kogarash, a high school boy who has the ability to see the supernatural. Having this talent has caused him many hardships resulting in him being poor, homeless and hoping for a better life. After searching for housing, he stumbles upon Yuragi Manor, a cheap boarding house that even he can afford. Once settled in, he realizes that the boarding house is filled with sexy female tenants, including a 16-year-old ghost named Yuna who is haunting his room! He ends up agreeing to help Yuna with her unfinished business which then leads to the other tenants also revealing secrets they have also been hiding.
