It's hard to bring a book to life through film in a perfect way—almost as hard as making a new, fun and original film for the screen. Yet, Crazy Rich Asians has done both. The film, based on the 2013 bestseller by Kevin Kwan, is not only enjoyable and a delight to watch, but it is also breaking new ground in Hollywood. Asians is the first Hollywood film in 25 years to feature a majorly Asian cast. Beyond that, the film introduces a culture that is barely known in the west. And it does all that while providing a love story for the ages.

The movie follows along with New York economics professor, Rachel Chu, who is invited to spend time with her boyfriend's family in Singapore. Little does Rachel know that Nick's family happen to be, you guessed it, crazy rich. Once their feet touch down in Asia, both Rachel and Nick have to figure out if they can be loyal to both family and duty, or if one of them will have to choose.

Kwan's book is alive with colors and character, and director Jon M. Chu has no problem bringing that to the screen. The film is vibrant in both visuals and story, taking the well-developed characters and giving them as much life in cinema. Starting from the very beginning, Chu captures the insanity and the charm of this rarely-seen culture. He paints the world into a hip, yet classic, stunning masterpiece.

A driving point of the movie could only be brought by the talent of performers and they do not disappoint. As Rachel, Constance Wu provides a subtle but strong take on the main character. Rachel could easily be drowned out by the characters around her but Wu makes sure that she stands out. Awkwafina, last seen in Oceans 8, steals every scene she is in as Rachel's former roommate Peik Lin, bringing the house down with laughter. Timing is essential in comedy and it's even more important when combined with drama, yet the CRA cast brings it to a tee. The emotional heart is not missed either, not just with Wu but also with Gemma Chans' Astrid. Her story brought the most reaction with the audience, providing tears and then cheers.

The drama in the movie could have easily taken over and burdened the film with a soap opera feeling with any less of a filmmaker, but Chu finds the best balance between drama and comedy. He paces out the film well without losing any of the essence of the book, though the ending feels a little rushed and some favorite characters barely make an appearance.

Asians has all the best elements of a perfect rom-com but with an added theme of originality and culture. The film is a celebration of love but is also an insight into a culture unknown to most typical Hollywood audiences. The soundtrack is even thought out, with popular songs like Madonna's "Material Girl" and Coldplay's "Yellow" being sung in Chinese.

There is a scene when Rachel and Peik Lin drive up to an estate and slowly stare at the sight before them. Peik Lin describes it as "spectacular", which is the best way to also describe the movie. From the clothes and houses in the story to the gorgeous and classic cinematography, Crazy Rich Asians delivers a timeless tale that also holds importance. It tackles problems that exist within this crazy culture and doesn't shy away from honest truths, all while connecting with audiences on multiple levels.

Good rom-coms have become scarce over the years but Crazy Rich Asians is more than just a good romantic story. It is a heartfelt tale that opens up opportunities and minds across the board, all while giving everyone in the audience a chance to laugh, cry and feel.
