Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is currently filming and is set to be a “massive superhero film.” During the filming of Guardians 2, the director has been asked if he will be making a Guardians Vol. 3. Why ask him while filming number 2 is beyond me.

But, James Gunn took part in the Q&A on social media site Facebook. He was casually asked if he was going to return to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn came out with an honest answer. Where Marvel want him to return, he is not entirely sure if he will. James Gunn said this:

“I’m not sure what I’m going to do after this. Marvel has talked to me about continuing on. I’m not sure if that’s what I want to do or if that’s not what I want to do… Right now I really am just concerned with doing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.” – James Gunn

There is no surprise whatsoever that Marvel want James Gunn to complete this trilogy. It’s also not a surprise that Gunn wants some time to think over it. After two years of being in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Joss Whedon and Jon Favreau both left the industry and said it was rather exhausting.

We all know that James Gunn is amazing, but if he chooses to leave after Vol. 2, he will be incredibly difficult to replace for Vol. 3.

Vol. 2 will be starring newcomers Kurt Russell, Elizabeth Debicki and Chris Sullivan. They will be joining the returning cast of stars. These are Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Michael Rooker. Sean Gunn, Glenn Close, Bradley Cooper (voice of Rocket) and the one and only Karen Gillian.
