WARNING: (Season 10 Spoilers Below!)

Back when the show first aired in 2007, the public were treated to a brand new comedy sitcom that started off with 5 main characters that made an attempt to adapt to everyday life. This being Sheldon, Leonard, Howard, Raj and Penny. As the show continued on, season after season, 2 more characters were promptly added in. This being Bernadette and Amy.

The Big Bang Theory now follows the lives of 7 friends that are all closely connected by their friendships and marriages. Ever since season 1, Sheldon became a recognizable character with his iconic three knock sequence on someones door before entering the room. Ever since the first time Sheldon started his three knock sequence in the show, fans have pondered as to why he actually does this. In the latest preview for season 10 of the show, it's finally explained why he does it.

So Why Does Sheldon Carry Out His Three Knock Sequence?

Sheldon and Penny Having A Nanny Talk

CBS & The Big Bang Theory have released their usual preview to get fans hyped for the next episode, and this weeks preview is full of juicy information. The preview shows Penny and Sheldon at an ice cream parlor and have a nanny talk. Penny realizes that something is wrong with Sheldon, so she asks him what is wrong. Sheldon then goes on to explain a situation from his teenage years...

"I'm going to tell you a story I've never told anyone before. I was thirteen years old and on spring break from college. I came home early because they ran out of math to teach me. My mother was at bible study, I walked in the house and expected it to be empty, and I heard a sound coming from my parents bedroom. When I opened the door, I saw my father having relations with another woman. This is why I never open a door without knocking three times. The first one is traditional. But two and three are for people to get their pants on." - Sheldon Cooper in Season 10

With the full episode yet to air, what if in the episode Penny talks Sheldon into stop knocking three times? Starting with the pros. If Sheldon stopped his usual knocking sequence, it would appear Sheldon is beginning to become more mature and focus on life with a full adult view. Another pro is, if Sheldon overcomes his knocking procedure, it would mean he as decided to accept that things change and you can't stop that. We all know that Sheldon doesn't like change, but maybe it's time for him to face the truth and realizes change can be for a good reason.

However, the cons would have a major effect on the show. If Sheldon stops his normal three knock procedure, Sheldon would no longer be the classic Sheldon Cooper we all know and love. The three knocks is a key part to the show and is how many fans recognize the show when they hear people knock three times in public. You can't resist but say "Penny" when you heat the knocks. Going back to what I said it would make Sheldon appear to be more mature, that falls into the cons too. This is because, it will begin to show closure on Sheldon and potentially wrap up the show when he becomes a normal person just like his 6 friends. We also know that Sheldon hates closure, so fingers crossed, it doesn't happen!

Is 'The Big Bang Theory' Heading Towards Its End?

It is still early days yet with the show only five weeks into its 10th season. However, no one knows what is still yet to happen in the remaining episodes. We could possibly see more secrets revealed by Sheldon and his friends which will tie the knot on the show. Or, will the 7 lovable friends begin to depart in their own ways to continue the rest of their lives away from each other and focus on their marriages, relationship and baby?
