Everything Wrong with 'Santa Clarita Diet'

Santa Clarita Diet is a Netflix Original, just a really bad one. I do love that Netflix is constantly making and releasing new shows. I have lots of content to watch all the time. However, I am going to be very honest here. I have a very strong love-hate relationship with the show Santa Clarita Diet.

What I do like about the show:

  • I love seeing Drew Barrymore on screen again. I missed her so much since Charlie's Angels.
  • It has a hilarious quirky humour.
  • The teenage daughter and her new nerdy guy best friend are adorable

Its Reviews:

While reviews are always changing, as of February 2019, Santa Clarita Diet is doing very well.

  • 7.8/10 on IMBD
  • 81% on Rotten Tomatoes
  • 8.5/10 on TV.com

So... whats the problem?

While many people already had a problem with it in the first season due to unnecessary gore and well ... the mother eats people. It's a bold choice for a T.V. series! The real problems begin in Season 2 with the very lame and even offensive attempt at appealing to millennials with their "Gender Studies" and left wing beliefs. Just to clarify, I am a millennial... and I am offended by this attempt.

Apparently it's ok to kill people for just being Nazi enthusiasts?

Please don't get me wrong. I am very left wing. I do not think it is okay in any way to be a Nazi or a Nazi supporter. I definitely do NOT think it is ok to be a white supremacist. However, you have to admit. As long as they are a not hurting anyone and just keeping to themselves inside their house... it's hard to justify killing them just for their personal beliefs.

However, the couple in Santa Clarita Diet... seems to think that is a great reason to pick their next victims wisely. Is it just me, or shouldn't they be looking for criminals? More specifically, people with a long record or hurting people.

Their awful attempt at feminism.

“We need to destroy these ginger bitches tonight.”– Joel

“Why do you assume they are female?” – Sheila

I'm pretty confident that this was put into the show as some sort of "feminism" but... umm... why do you assume that the term "bitches" is feminine? Seriously, just because he said "bitches" does not mean that he assumed they were female?

If they really wanted to put some feminism in this show all they had to do was make a strong female lead. In this case, a stronger female lead.

It's like they tried desperately to forcibly add some feminism and good ol' left wing acceptance... to get better reviews? Then, as they forcibly put it in... FAILED MISERABLY!

“He or she is eating him or her.”

One of Joel's friends goes to a political collectiveness class as a part of his work. Which is great, I love that part... but then Shiela and Joel continue to make fun of it for the rest of the season. Kinda ruins the point of adding this stuff at all.

So, at one point a zombie clams aggressively ate another clam. That part was actually kind of cool. Then someone says "he ate him!" They, of course, have to be corrected at this exact moment for something reason with “He or she is eating him or her.” I'm not offended if you call the clam by the pronoun "he"... but this "he or she" stuff is just rubbing it in my face ... please don't. It also just took about from the moment when the clam just became a cannibal... which is disappointing.

Season Three

The next season is already on its way is coming out this year (2019). So, people must really like. Which is strange because all I hear from word of mouth is that people can't stand it? Are they all watching it in secret? Well... okay they are probably watching it in secret. Hopefully this next season will be better than the second one.
