With big storylines trekking through Season 10, it appears the showrunners of The Big Bang Theory have something fresh up their sleeves, as Jim Parsons explains more about what to expect in the brand new Big Bang Theory spin-off show that is centered around Sheldon Cooper's childhood.

Start With The Basics

The Big Bang Theory spin-off show was officially announced in November 2016. During the announcement, very brief details were revealed, which kept fans on their toes. The showrunners dished out that the spin-off show will be centered around 12-year-old Sheldon Cooper and his childhood years when he was growing up in Galveston, Texas.

Obviously, Jim Parsons won't be playing Sheldon, so it gives the fans the opportunity to start picking out their favorite young stars to take on the role. In a recent interview with ET, Jim Parsons advised that whoever will play the part:

"Watch me as little as possible, and take that thing by the horns. Make it your own."

Unlike The Big Bang Theory, the spin-off show will be shot single-camera and will not be filmed in front of a studio audience. Throughout the show we will finally get to see the relationship Sheldon had with the rest of his family. Of course, this will include a lot of humor and jokes that Sheldon will only understand because he's pretty much a genius, and his family aren't quite as smart as him.

Will Sheldon's Family Feature In The Show?

Who will actually be in the spin-off show? Big Bang Theory fans already know that Sheldon has a twin sister whom we have met already. If you cast your mind all the way back to Season 1 Episode 15, Missy Cooper made her first main appearance. Sheldon also has an older brother called George Jr. whom audiences haven't met yet. So, prepare yourself — we could be about to meet an older Cooper.

We also know that Sheldon's father tragically died before The Big Bang Theory actually began. This is the best opportunity for the showrunners to introduce George to the Big Bang Theory universe. Let's also not forget Sheldon's mother, Mary Cooper. We've met Mary on several occasions and we know she is a born-again Christian, played by the wonderful Laurie Metcalf. However, it is currently unknown whether Metcalf will be reprising her role as Mary Cooper.

Fingers crossed the new spin-off show won't disappoint fans and will turn out to be a huge success like The Big Bang Theory itself. The spin-off is set to be a fun and humorous series, and as far as Jim Parsons is concerned, "a no-brainer for a series." Following on with his interview Parson explained:

"The writers have done, from the beginning, such a good job of building such a history and a layered nature to all these characters. It just seems like a really wasted opportunity if you don't decide to explore the origin story with that. I mean, they've layered so many things in there over the past decade that is already there to be drawn from."

There is no word yet on when the pilot episode of this series will air, but you never know — we might find out any day now!
