My Review of 'Game of Thrones' Season 8 Episode 2

After the gather of characters in episode one, how did episode two fare?

So, the season premiere already happened. Everyone is excited as the White Walkers are on their way to Winterfell, and we know this is going to be a hell of a fight since all of the armies are gathering together to fight them. Jamie looks onto Bran at the end of the episode. Jon discovers that he's the rightful heir of the Seven Kingdoms. There's so much in the air and we're dying to see what happens next.

So episode two just happened after much high expectations. This season is condensed so they have to have a lot happen in this episode right? Well that's not what happened in this one.

The Night's Watch, along with Tormund and Beric, return to Winterfell to report what happened. They tell them that the White Walkers are on their way. How long will it take them to get to Winterfell? A day and a half. This is at the very beginning of the episode and I knew from then this was going to be a bit of a boring episode. A day and a half? This just means that there's going to be a ton of bonding time and no action.

This episode was a little bit like the first episode but felt like more of a best of Game of Thrones episode. It's like one of those episodes in sitcoms where they have a recap of the best moments and have flashbacks. It felt like such a weak episode.

This might as well have been similar to Dragonball Z where they would have a character screaming and charging up for the whole episode. That little happened in this episode.

I guess I'm over exaggerating a little bit. Arya had sex with Gendry, I guess that was bound to happen. It makes me question if they're going to have Arya become pregnant with a bastard Baratheon. Does that child have a claim to the throne if the Targaryens are decimated?

A nice moment was when Lady Brienne was knighted by Jaime. Tormund was of course her biggest supporter. Tormund in general is such a great character. He's so funny in this episode. He propositions Brienne for sex at least three times because this could be their last night alive. He then goes on to tell the funniest story about how he killed a giant and slept with the giants wife only to drink her breast milk for months. He claims this is the reason why he's so big and strong.

Jon Snow actually tells Daenerys of his true past and you can see the distraught in Daenerys' eyes when he tells her. She doesn't want to lose her claim to the throne. There's a huge question mark as to how she's going to react to this news in the next episode.

Speaking of Daenerys, she had a private conversation with Sansa. Sansa explains her stance to Daenerys very clearly. She believes in Tyrion and Lady Brienne and wants The North to have their own sovereignty. Soon afterwards, Theon arrives back in Winterfell, pledging his allegiance to The North and Sansa gives him a warm welcome.

Sam gives Jorah his family sword because he doesn't have the strength to use it properly. How much does Sam give to Jorah? He's saved his life and now he's giving him his family sword?

Then there's a ton of bonding time between characters. Nothing bad really happens in this episode and it kind of coming back to what I was worried about for season eight. I thought this season would continue to pander to fans like in season seven and it seems as though the pandering is continuing on.

Overall, I would say that this episode was a bit of a disappointment. It's not terrible, but it did not live up to the expectations that I had for it. I'll have to give this episode a seven out of ten. There had better be some deaths in the next episode. I mean the battle is coming right? There'd better be a fight! If they continue to just talk and talk in episode three then I think they may start losing a ton of fans.
