My Review of 'Toy Story 4'

I can't believe they made a fourth instalment. How could this movie be any good?

Toy Story 4 is a movie that I didn't think Pixar would make. They're the company that's supposed to be against sequels but we're seeing quite a lot of sequels coming from them.

The first Toy Story was revolutionary. I heard the second one wasn't even supposed to be in the theatres but it was actually better than the first.

The third one came out a little while back and no one thought it would turn out as good as it was. The thing is, Toy Story 3 seemed like it was the end of the line because Andy was gone and the toys were given to a new little girl.

I was wrong, they came out with yet another one. This one is pretty different from the other movies. I guess a lot of people that watched Toy Story 3 noticed that Bo Peep wasn't in the movie. Toy Story 4 kind of explains her story. Kind of makes you wonder if they planned this whole thing all along.

So way back when the toys were still Andy's toys Bo Peep was given away because her little girl didn't want her anymore. Since then she's been a lost toy living as a nomad.

If you remember the first two Toy Story movies, Woody and Bo Peep had a bit of a loving relationship. They touched upon this on the movie.

In Toy Story 4, the toy's owner, Bonnie is just starting school and creates this new toy called "Forky." Forky is basically a spork and some garbage put together. He has Buzz Lightyear moments where he doesn't accept that he's a toy. He wants to go back to the garbage where he came from. There's a lot of jokes that come out of this and it is quite entertaining.

One of Forky's little situations gets him lost and Woody wants to keep Bonnie happy. So he sets out to retrieve Forky for Bonnie. While looking for Forky, he discovers this whole new world of toys and the movie starts off.

I would have to say that this movie has a different feel than the other Toy Story movies that came out before. It's still fun and amusing but they added new elements to this movie.

You don't see much of the old toys. They have a few lines but in general you don't really hear from them. Buzz Lightyear even has a smaller role in this movie. There are a bunch of new toys that take centre stage and it works.

Another thing I noticed is that they added jump scares to this movie. It's pretty funny and it gives you a little extra excitement in the movie so it's a nice little touch. I'm not sure how well that'll work with the kids but I thought it was great.

The theme has changed as well. Not to give it away but I think it's a theme that hasn't really been explored in most Pixar movies. I guess Pixar movies are starting to grow up a bit. They can get away with this for Toy Story as the kids that grew up with Toy Story are already adults.

Overall, I really liked this movie. I was surprised that I liked this movie that much. For a fourth installment in a franchise, it's pretty shocking that they pulled it off. My hats go off to Pixar for doing this but if anyone could pull it off, it would be them. I would have to give this movie an 9 out of 10. It was really entertaining and one of the most fun I've had in the theatre in 2019 so far.
