Before this movie even came out, and I saw the trailer for this film on TV, I knew that a biopic about Elton John would definitely be a hit at the Oscars next year.

Having seen the film, I think I could see this coming true.

Here We Go!

Rocketman is a biographical musical film written by Lee Hall, and directed by Dexter Fletcher, the director who finished the job on last year's Bohemian Rhapsody after Bryan Singer's controversies.

The film stars Taron Edgarton as Elton John, and it documents John's introduction to music, and his journey to stardom as one of the most influential musicians in history, while also depicting his battles with alcohol, drugs, and sex.

And I am happy to say that Rocketman is one of my favorite films of the year. I think it's a great film with a lot of great qualities.

Firstly, I just want to say that I'm not a huge fan of musicals. And this movie is a musical. There are scenes where characters break into song, and start performing choreographed dance numbers. And it's done extremely well in this film.

All of the music in this movie is great, and I absolutely loved the soundtrack. It's got really nice-sounding music from Elton's career, and they're all performed fantastically, especially by Edgarton, who did his own singing in this film.

The dance choreography is also really great and well-performed. The musical numbers are all directed very well, and there's one in this film that appears to be one long take, which I thought was really cool.

Taron Edgarton also gives a fantastic performance as Elton. I think he's Oscar-worthy, and I loved how he not only did great on the vocals, but also in both the comedic and dramatic scenes in the film. I truly believed Edgarton's performance in the film, and he felt very real to me.

Everyone in the supporting cast gives a great performance. For example, I had NO IDEA Bryce Dallas Howard was in this movie, and a large part of that is definitely her performance. Despite being a big musical, no one feels out of place.

It shifts seamlessly from regular dialogue scenes to big musical numbers without ever feeling disjointed or strange. Virtually every scene is directed with a good amount of flair, and they are incredibly fun to watch.

However, this movie isn't always a good amount of fun, because there are a lot of sad moments in this film. There is drama between characters, and it's all handled very well, and it shows a lot of the low moments in Elton's career with his personal life.

Edgarton was able to perfectly portray him in his bright and dark moments, and he was so good that it didn't even feel like I was watching an actor on screen, as he was so natural with his role.

This film depicts positive and negative aspects of fame beautifully, and overall, this is a very likable film with fantastic music, and it's just very fun to watch.

But if I were to pick out some problems with the film, I'd say that some of the musical numbers could feel a bit long, and there is a performance of "Rocketman" in this film, but it's near the end of the second act, and I just personally wished they had saved the "Rocketman" performance for the END of this film.

And in terms of everything else, despite the musical twist on Elton's life, it does hit the same beats as most other musical biopics. Some parts of the film do seem familiar, and I think that's what stops this from being a perfect film.

But despite a few minor flaws here and there, I think this is a really entertaining film with a wonderful, charismatic lead performance from Edgarton.

It's got great music, and while I may not be well-versed in Elton's career and music, I think it's safe to say this movie was able to pay justice to his songs, while also portraying Elton's persona, and sexuality in a positive light.

I'm gonna give 'Rocketman' a 9/10.

Definitely my favorite non-10/10 film of the year. This is a must-see, and it's a total blast. Thank you so much for reading.
