Another year has come to an end and, as usual, we are faced with the realization that the works we loved when we were younger have been off the air for years — decades even. Nostalgia is an interesting concept because there are certain films you remember adoring when you were 8, so when you decide to revisit them in your 20s, you realize that they are genuinely terrible.

I had such a great time with the 1993 video game adaptation of Super Mario Bros. that when I went back to revisit it, I expected it to be as wonderful as it still was in my mind. There are honestly so many aspects to Super Mario Bros. that are so terrible they made me question my own taste in film. But the movie managed to give me the same nightmares that I had when I was younger too, so kudos there.

Looking back, I can barely believe that film will officially be 24 years old come May 2017. In light of this, I figured, why not list some works celebrating upcoming anniversaries and allow everyone to dwell on the fact that Tommy Pickles is almost 30 years old?

1. The First Episode Of Rugrats Aired 26 Years Ago

Original Air Date: 1991–2004

The first official episode of Nickelodeon's #Rugrats entitled, "Tommy's First Birthday" aired on August 11, 1991. The show chronicled the lives of a group of toddlers — mainly Tommy, his best friend Chuckie, twins Phil and Lil, and his older cousin, Angelica — as they face the numerous trials and tribulations most 1-year-olds experience. The series was a hit and in 1998 a self-titled Rugrats Movie released, which caused legions of children to sob incessantly during the scene with Tommy and his younger brother, Dil... You know which one I'm referring to:

2. The Romantic Tearjerker 'A Walk To Remember' Turns 15

'A Walk To Remember' [Credit: Warner Bros.]

Initial Release Date: January 25, 2002

Landon (Shane West) broke the one promise he made to Jamie (Mandy Moore) toward the beginning of Adam Shankman's #AWalkToRemember, which was to not fall in love with her — and damn it, if this movie didn't make you tear up at least a little bit watching their beautiful relationship progress! Adapted from the Nicholas Sparks novel of the same name, A Walk To Remember tells the story of two teenagers on opposite sides of the high school societal spectrum thrown together after Landon is made to do community service. The film grossed over $47 million worldwide on an $11 million budget and caused legions of young people to explore the more emotional side of themselves. The chemistry between West and Moore is pretty great, it even gave him a starring role in her music video for "Cry."

Original Air Date: February 9th, 1987

Thirty years ago, The #Oprah Winfrey Show was only on the air for five months when she left her studio and ventured into Forsyth County in Georgia. Forsyth was known as a county where no black person had lived for seventy-five years and was in the headlines for some residents' hostile response to Civil Rights protests. Oprah journeyed right into the "hotbed of racism" by filming her show on location. She kept a level head as she spoke with audience members who were residents of the county as many voiced their opinions on what they thought about keeping the county "white." It is one of the most controversial issues The Oprah Winfrey Show brought to light and over the span of its twenty-five year history, was certainly not the last.

4. We First Heard "Sing To Me, Paolo" From The Lizzie McGuire Movie 14 Years Ago

[Credit: Walt Disney Pictures]

Initial Release Date: May 2nd, 2003

The very first theatrical film based on a #Disney Channel series came in the release of 2003's #TheLizzieMcGuireMovie. The original series, which followed the life of the titular #LizzieMcGuire, aired from 2001-2004 and starred #HilaryDuff, LaLaine, Adam Lamberg, Jake Thomas, Hallie Todd and Robert Carradine. The film sees Lizzie and her classmates taking a class trip to Rome when she meets a handsome Italian singer, Paolo (Yani Gellman) who harbors some seriously sinister character traits.

It was a surprising hit and earned over $55 million worldwide. More importantly, if anyone ever asks a fan: "have you ever seen such a beautiful night?" They have a definite answer for the rest of their lives.

Initial Release Date: May 24th, 1991

The #RidleyScott-directed, #ThelmaAndLouise was released in the summer of 1991 and introduced audience members to the spectacular pairing of #SusanSarandon and #GeenaDavis as the titular characters. The film follows the friends as they set out on a two-day road trip in Louise's 1966 Thunderbird, where they eventually come face to face with some serious trouble. Thelma And Louise stars Michael Madsen as Louise's boyfriend, Harvey Keitel as a State Police Investigator... And also a young, handsome, tan and blonde #BradPitt stars as J.D., a role #GeorgeClooney reveals he wanted to play! Pitt is all kinds of wonderful in the film.

Thelma And Louise earned over $45 million at the box office, on a production budget of $16.5 million, and has gone on to become a Scott classic.

6. We First Visited Halloweentown 19 Years Ago

'Halloweentown' [Credit: Disney]

Initial Air Date: October 17th, 1998

Okay this one freaked me out a little bit... It has officially been almost twenty years since we were introduced to our favorite 13-year-old witch, Marnie (#KimberlyJBrown) as her and her siblings sneaked their way into the realm of #Halloweentown. With the help of her grandmother, portrayed by the iconic #DebbieReynolds, they must come together to defeat the evil Kalabar (Robin Thomas) before he destroys the town forever! Halloweentown was the first in a series of four films, three of which star Brown as Marnie and the fourth saw Sara Paxton take the role of the now college-aged witch. The film has become a #Halloween staple in certain households and regularly appears on the Best Disney Channel Films Of All Time lists.

The franchise is still beloved by many, so much so that during this year's Halloween, Marnie herself made an appearance at the Spirit Of Halloween Festival! It will certainly be an emotional journey watching this film next Halloween due to the passing of the illustrious Reynolds in December.

Original Air Date: November 3rd, 1990

The NBC teen sitcom, #SavedByTheBell aired from 1989-1992 and has a number of memorable moments throughout its four seasons. Arguably the most iconic moment moment comes from the Season 2 episode "Jessie's Song", wherein Jessie (Elizabeth Berkley) feels overwhelmed by her various high school studies and her new singing group, Hot Sundae. To keep up with the pressures, she becomes addicted to caffeine pills and the result of her addiction is belting out the classic Pointer Sisters song, "I'm So Excited" as she breaks down in Zack's (Mark-Paul Gosselar) arms.

I used to watch reruns upon reruns of this show when I was probably eight or so and because they would air this particular episode so many times, I memorized the entire above sequence. I sometimes recite it to myself when I need motivation:

"No time! There's never any time!I don't have time to study... I'll never get into Stanford.I'll let everyone down! I'm so confused."

8. Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me Turns 18

Initial Release Date: June 11th, 1999

The sequel to the hit 1997 #MikeMyers classic officially becomes old enough to vote and... Ahem...

Original Air Date: September 2nd, 1996

#Arthur officially became the longest running children's animated television series in 2014, boasting twenty seasons and showing no signs of slowing down. Based on the book series by Marc Brown, the show follows the adventures of everyone's favorite 8-year-old anthropomorphic aardvark, Arthur Read as he experiences life in Elwood City with his friends and family. Throughout the show's run, there have been a myriad of celebrity guest voice appearances including #MattDamon, Mr. Rogers, Alex Trebek, Michelle Kwan, Lance Armstrong and Joan Rivers, just to name a few. The series has transcended generations and remains a staple in the hearts of many, recently garnering another form of prestige by becoming an internet meme. You know you've made it when!

10. Jack And Rose Fell In Love On The Titanic 20 Years Ago

'Titanic' [Credit: 20th Century Fox, Paramount Pictures]

Initial Release Date: December 19th, 1997

Sigh... Come December the date-movie-to-end-all-date-movies, #JamesCameron's classic, #Titanic turns twenty years old. The film that made us fall in love with #LeonardoDiCaprio & #KateWinslet and caused legions of people to research whether or not Jack and Rose Dawson existed. As time progresses, there have been plenty of discussions regarding the logistics of Jack fitting on the broken door floating in the cold, Atlantic ocean (SPOILER: THEY WOULD HAVE SUNK IF HE SAT ON THE FUCKING DOOR) or how much of a selfish person Old Rose was for tossing the Heart Of The Ocean into the ocean (WHERE IT TECHNICALLY BELONGED BUT YEAH, I'LL GIVE YOU THAT ONE).

Regardless of any ill feelings toward it, the film was the highest-grossing film of all-time and remained that way for twelve years until Cameron came along and broke his own record with 2010's #Avatar. Three months following its initial release, Titanic became the first film ever to earn more than $1 billion worldwide and following its 3D re-release in 2012 (100 years following the actual sinking of the RMS Titanic), crossed the $2 billion threshold.

Before the franchise had twelve installments to its name (just kidding, there are only five #StepUp movies...), the first Step Up showcased the crazy talents of #JennaDewanTatum and was the breakthrough role for #ChanningTatum, skyrocketing him to immense popularity. The film followed Tyler Gage (Tatum), the troublemaker with a heart of gold, as he receives the opportunity of a lifetime after vandalizing a prestigious performing arts school by perfecting his dancing capabilities and falling in love with Nora Clark (Dewan). Step Up was a surprisingly smash hit, grossing $114 million on a measly $12 million budget and more importantly, paved the way for the beautiful Tatums to fall in love like their on-screen counterparts. The couple married on June 11th, 2009 and in 2013, welcomed baby girl Everly into the world.

Jenna Celebrating The 10th Anniversary With A Throwback...

In 2016, Dewan-Tatum posted a video on Instagram of her and husband, Channing recreating the beautiful Step Up lift for the 10th anniversary of the film's release. Cue the swooning hearts of millions.

Original Air Date: May 5th, 2000

The series finale to #BoyMeetsWorld, a staple during ABC's classic TGIF lineup, concluded seventeen years ago with the words that will make any fan shed a tear or two:

"I love you all... Class dismissed."

The series chronicled the life of Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) and his friends and family as they progressed from pre-pubescent children to full-fledged married adults. Viewers watched them grow up with a roller coaster of emotions through seven seasons; handling an incredible amount of issues at the time, ranging from alcoholism and adultery to pregnancy and all that's in between. A spin-off series, #GirlMeetsWorld premiered on the Disney Channel in 2014 which follows the life of Cory and Topanga's (Danielle Fishel) teenage daughter, Riley (Rowan Blanchard).

Original Air Date: July 17th, 2009

This inclusion is one of the more recent ones of the list yet it is insane to believe it is only two years away from reaching its decade anniversary! Three of Disney's biggest hits at the time, The Suite Life On Deck, Wizards Of Waverly Place and Hannah Montana, all crossed over for a special three-parter in the summer of 2009. Each part aired for its respective series, with Part 1 being an episode for Wizards Of Waverly Place, Part 2 for The Suite Life and Part 3 for Hannah Montana. The crossover followed Max (#JakeTAustin), Justin (#DavidHenrie) and Alex Russo (#SelenaGomez) as they joined regulars from The Suite Life on Deck aboard the SS Tipton, Cody Martin (#ColeSprouse) attempting to retrieve tickets for a Hannah Montana concert in Hawaii and Miley Stewart (#MileyCyrus), en route to the concert on the SS Tipton, loses her mother's lucky anklet. The broadcast was watched by 9.3 million viewers, becoming the highest-rated program of the night on both broadcast and specialty television!

15. The Final Episode Of The Amanda Show Aired 15 Years Ago

Original Air Date: September 21st, 2002

This one was another that left me in disbelief... The sketch comedy and variety series #TheAmandaShow ended fifteen years ago.

'Moody's Point' [Credit: Nickelodeon]

A spin-off of the sketch comedy series, #AllThat, The Amanda Show starred #Nickelodeon darlings #AmandaBynes, #DrakeBell and #JoshPeck and featured a number of hysterical sketches beloved by fans, myself including. Some of these sketches include:

Blockblister: "This movie is better... Much better!"

Judge Trudy: "Bring in the Dancing Lobsters."

Totally Kyle: "... I have to tinkle."

Moody's Point: "What's that supposed to mean?!"

... Among many, many others.

The series also featured super obsessive fan, Penelope Taynt (portrayed by Bynes) who consistently failed at achieving her goal of meeting Amanda Bynes. She also created a website that was essentially a time capsule to the early 2000s with www.AmandaPlease.com.

Original Air Date: May 23, 2007

There was a time when #AmericanIdol was the biggest show on television and thirty million eyes were glued that May night to see who would be the winner in the sixth installment of the reality singing competition. The final two were down to #JordinSparks and #BlakeLewis, with Sparks taking home the glory of becoming the sixth winner of American Idol and was also the youngest winner, at seventeen years old. A record seventy-four million votes were cast and the night ended with Sparks beautifully belting out her first single, "This Is My Now."

American Idol ran for fifteen seasons, from June 2002-April 7th, 2016. The series had three original judges in #SimonCowell, #PaulaAbdul and #RandyJackson, with the final remaining judge (Jackson) departing the show after twelve seasons. Following Jackson's departure, the series suffered from a revolving door of judges including record producer, Kara DioGuardi to #EllenDeGeneres, and the famous rivalry between #NickiMinaj and #MariahCarey. The final Idol judges consisted of #JenniferLopez, #KeithUrban and #HarryConnickJr. There were many notable singers that appeared on the series including Season 1 winner, #KellyClarkson, #JenniferHudson, Season 4 winner, #CarrieUnderwood, #AdamLambert and also introduced us to #WilliamHung so... That was nice.

17. Benjamin Braddock Asked Mrs. Robinson If She Was Trying To Seduce Him 50 Years Ago

'The Graduate' [Credit: United Artists]

Initial Release Date: December 21, 1967

The #MikeNichols-directed classic, #TheGraduate celebrates its fifty year anniversary in 2017 and starred a fresh-faced #DustinHoffman, #KatharineRoss and #AnneBancroft. The film follows Benjamin Braddock (Hoffman), a recent college graduate who is seduced by Mrs. Robinson (Bancroft) and subsequently falls in love with her daughter, Elaine (Ross). The final few moments of The Graduate is arguably the most famous scene in the film because of the subtle realizations made between characters, with no line of dialogue spoken.

In 1996, The Graduate was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." The Criterion Collection, an American home video distribution company that focuses on licensing important classic and contemporary films, added The Graduate to its esteemed catalogue in 2016. The film remains one of the "most beloved American films of all time" and also brought the music of Simon & Garfunkel to the forefront, utilizing such classic songs as "The Sound Of Silence" and "Mrs. Robinson" for the film. The infamous leg shot has also been parodied in numerous works, including #Deadpool and #Animaniacs.
