Who's Going In The Chipper This Time? Meet The 'Fargo' Season 3 Cast

Stick on your snow boots and prepare for more crime syndicates, more dodgy accents than you can throw a stack of waffles at, and more fur hats than a PETA rally, we are heading out into the icy wilderness of Minnesota for Fargo Season 3.

After two stellar seasons of #FX's anthology story, Noah Hawley is back for another dip into the icy waters of Fargo's dark #comedy. With stars like Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman, Kirsten Dunst, and Ted Danson in the books for the first two seasons, just who is joining for round three? Well, with more than a few awards under their belts, it looks like #Fargo Season 3 cast could be the most star-studded yet.

Ewan McGregor

Born: March 31, 1971

Seen in: Trainspotting (1996) Moulin Rouge! (2001) Star Wars prequel trilogy (1999–2005)

Probably the most recognizable cast member is the charming Scotsman Ewan McGregor. In 1993, McGregor landed a leading role in Channel 4's Lipstick on Your Collar, before going on to start his long-term collaborative relationship with director Danny Boyle in Shallow Grave. The pair joined again in 1996 for cult classic Trainspotting, and will team up again for the long-awaited sequel in 2017. Probably his other most famous role to date was taking over from Sir Alec Guinness in the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi for George Lucas's Star Wars prequel trilogy — a role he has said he would love to reprise.

Did you know? McGregor is married to Greek-French production designer Eve Mavrakis and they have four girls together, including one adopted daughter from Mongolia.

David Thewlis

Born: March 20, 1963

Seen in: The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996) The Big Lebowski (1998) The Harry Potter series (2004-2011)

The other big famous face to join Fargo Season 3 is undoubtedly David Thewlis. Starting out on the British television screen, Thewlis appeared in '80s sitcom Up the Elephant and Round the Castle and one episode of Only Fools and Horses, before a breakout role in 199's Naked. From then he went on to star alongside Marlon Brando in the maligned The Island of Dr. Moreau and Sean Connery in Dragonheart. Thewlis also played the firm father in tragic The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, however, it is for the werewolf teacher Lupin in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter films that a new generation will remember the actor.

Did you know? He originally auditioned for the part of Professor Quirrell in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone before losing out to Ian Hart. Luckily, Thewlis was cast in the third film, debuting as Lupin in 2004.

Scoot McNairy

Born: November 11, 1977

After dropping out of film school less than a year in, Scoot McNairy went on to appear in over 200 TV commercials before his move into film and television acting; his break came in 2001 when he starred in Alex Holdridge's Wrong Numbers. McNairy has been in some pretty big films with some pretty famous faces, and has acted alongside Brad Pitt in both Killing Them Softly and 12 Years a Slave to critical acclaim, as well as a string of high-profile roles in the likes of Argo and Batman v Superman.

Michael Stuhlbarg

Born: July 5, 1968

Seen in: A Serious Man (2009), Boardwalk Empire (2010-2013) Men in Black 3 (2012)

The first of this year's Boardwalk Empire alumni, Stuhlbarg played infamous gangster Arnold Rothstein in Boardwalk Empire, and has appeared in other shows like Law & Order and Ugly Betty. A frequent award-winner, Stuhlbarg starred in the #CoenBrothers's typically grim comedy A Serious Man, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe. More recently he played the hapless Nicodemus West in Marvel's Doctor Strange alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, a role that will likely continue with the franchise given the character's comic book history.

Did you know? While studying at Juilliard in New York, Stuhlbarg became friends and housemates with Viola Davis.

Shea Whigham

Born: January 5, 1969

Seen in: The Killing Room (2009) Boardwalk Empire (2010-2014) Star Trek Beyond (2016)

One of those faces that everyone knows, but is hard to place, Shea Whigham has been acting since 1997 after a one-off appearance in TV show Ghost Stories. His love of television developed into roles in everything from ER to True Detective, but Whigham also has an illustrious film career thanks to the likes of Fast & Furious and The Wolf of Wall Street. 2017 is set to be a big year for the actor, adding appearances in Kong: Skull Island and Death Note to his CV alongside Fargo. However, it is as the alcoholic ex-sheriff Eli Thompson that you remember Whigham for in all five seasons of HBO's Boardwalk Empire.

Carrie Coon

Born: January 24, 1981

If there is one thing Hawley and the Coen brothers know how to do right, it is write a leading lady. Step in Carrie Coon. With a long history of a life on stage, Coon appeared in theatrical productions of Our Town, Brontë, and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? before leaping into mainstream roles. Thanks to her Tony nomination from Woolf, Coon was cast in HBO's Leftovers, then debuted in film for David Fincher's Gone Girl in 2014. Let's hope that Coon can continue the winning streak of Fargo's ladies and grab award nominations in the footsteps of Allison Tolman and Kirsten Dunst.

Graham Verchere

Seen in: Jim Henson's Turkey Hollow (2015) My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic (2014-2015)

As the cousin of actor Will Verchere-Gopaulsingh, Graham is relatively new to the acting scene and has mainly done voice work so far. With a full production slate ahead, Verchere's most notable role was as the voice of Pipsqueak in the My Little Pony TV series, and as the main child star in the upcoming Woody Woodpecker film. His Twitter reveals that he is currently in ninth grade and has a passion for computers and guitar.

Did you know? Graham also has a twin brother.

Karan Soni

Born: January 8, 1989

Seen in: Goosebumps (2015) Ghostbusters (2016) Deadpool (2016)

With a career that is only just starting, Karan Soni is one to watch. Starting in Paul Feig's Other Space, the show was cancelled after just one series, but Soni teamed with the director again for the Ghostbusters reboot. Yes, he did star in several AT&T commercials, but he also had small roles on TV in Melissa and Joey and The Goldbergs. However, it is as downtrodden taxi driver Dopinder that we all know him from in Fox's big hitter Deadpool!

Jim Gaffigan

Born: July 7, 1966

Seen in: Super Troopers (2001) 17 Again (2009) The Jim Gaffigan Show (2015-2016)

The stand-up comedian and voice actor is a self-professed "clean" comic, steering clear of swear words wherever he can in favor of humor about food and family — we aren't sure how that will work in the potty-mouthed Fargo. Gaffigan produced a series of animated shorts, titled Pale Force, for Late Night with Conan O'Brien and has written his memoir Dad Is Fat, as well as 2014's Food: A Love Story. Gaffigan played a stylized version of himself for two seasons of The Jim Gaffigan Show, before he and wife Jeannie decided to stop the show in 2016.

Did you know? Gaffigan tries to keep in a bedtime routine, even when on tour, so takes his family with him wherever he goes.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead

Born: November 28, 1984

Joining Coon in the relatively small circle of ladies in Fargo Season 3, Mary Elizabeth Winstead developed Scream Queen status due to her roles in Final Destination 3, Death Proof and Black Christmas, but has also had parts in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and a forgettable role as Bruce Willis's daughter in the fourth and fifth Die Hard films. Winstead rose to prominence in 2016 as the lead in Dan Trachtenberg's 10 Cloverfield Lane, although it is highly unlikely she will reprise the role for the upcoming God Particle.

Did you know?: Winstead is also a singer, forming part of duo Got a Girl with Dan the Automator.

Daryl Shuttleworth

Born: July 22, 1960

Seen in: Stargate SG-1 (various) Watchmen (2009) Dear Mr. Gacy (2010)

While he has mainly stuck to TV, you may have spotted Daryl Shuttleworth as Jon's father in Zack Snyder's graphic novel epic Watchmen. Appearing in no less than six TV pilots, Shuttleworth has certainly been around the block. He has even played two different roles in Stargate SG-1, in addition to a one-episode stint in the Friday the 13th TV series.

Did you know? Shuttleworth was once the president of the Canadian Virtual Airlines, a roleplaying simulation about flight.

Fred Melamed

Born: May 13, 1956

Seen in: Grand Theft Auto video game series (various) A Serious Man (2009) Lady Dynamite (2016)

Another actor used to treading the boards, Fred Melamed was once a nominee for the Irene Ryan Award for promising young actors. Melamed went through a "dark period" where he nearly quit acting altogether and concentrated on voice work, including various Grand Theft Auto games. Thankfully, Melamed returned to acting and has gone on to star in a whole host of Woody Allen films. Melamed also acted alongside Stuhlbarg in A Serious Man to portray villain Sy Ableman — one of the Coens' greatest characters. After a (very) long hiatus, Melamed returned to stage and portrayed The Father in Ethan Coen's Talking Cure.

Did you know? Melamed's twin sons both suffer with autism, a cause for which he and his wife are both frequently fundraise.

Thomas Mann

Born: September 27, 1991

Seen in: Project X (2010) Beautiful Creatures (2013) Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015)

The youngest in the pack, Thomas Mann started in Nickelodeon's iCarly, before later moving to hit show The Middle. His lack of acting credits were actually his saving grace when cast in comedy Project X, as producers were looking for a lead with relatively little experience. His biggest break came in 2014 when he portrayed art student Rainer Ybarra in Welcome To Me, and then the likes of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, and The Stanford Prison Experiment.

Did you know? After auditioning seven times for Project X, it took a word from producer Todd Phillips to nab Mann the part.

Caitlynne Medrek

Born: November 19, 1989

Seen in: My-HiME (2004) Out With Dad (2010)

Starting young in stage work, Medrek has continued her passion to star in the likes of The Diary of Anne Frank. Medrek is now known for her voiceover work in anime shows like My-HiME and Dragon Ball-Z. She also appeared on the final season of AMC's Hell on Wheels, and more recently as Claire Daniels on LGBT web series Out With Dad.

Did you know? A keen dancer, Medrek was a member of the Young Canadians of the Calgary Stampede.

Hamish Linklater

Born: July 7, 1976

Seen in: Fantastic Four (2005) The Newsroom (2013) The Crazy Ones (2013-2014)

As the son of vocal trainer Kristin Linklater, Hamish is more than qualified for his Shakespearean acting credentials, which he started aged eight. Hamish was part of the 2005 Fantastic Four film (the slightly better one), starring as Leonard Kirk, the director of communications for Von Doom Industries. Most known for his part alongside Julia Louis-Dreyfus in The New Adventures of Old Christine, Linklater has also appeared in the role of senior producer Jerry Dantana for six episodes of Aaron Sorkin's The Newsroom. Linklater then left the role to star in CBS series The Crazy Ones, and has since returned to Shakespeare for the 2017 version of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Did you know? He is the long-term partner of American Horror Story actress Lily Rabe.
