Remember, Remember . . . V for Vendetta
I aim to write this more about the movie than the comics as I feel the movie has a wider audience, but this by no means discounts the incredible writing of the comics (obviously). I will be leaning into the comics here and there as well, of course, as it is the foundation to this entire diatribe I am about to explore.

Them Beyond Us
CHAPTER ONE Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. And yet, here I was hurtling through that wretched vacuum, screaming at the top of my lungs with not a soul around to hear me. Well, except of course for me. It really shatters that whole “tree in the woods” analogy. In hindsight, it was rather embarrassing and knowing what I know now, I’d say the theatrics, as real as they were at the time, were a bit over the top. I’ll submit my nod for an Emmy and move on.

Thought Experiment
The first thing he remembered was falling; a floating sensation. He would later equate this to his consciousness returning to his body as everything began to swim back to him. It wasn’t the voice barking to him over the radio, or the rumble pulsing through the floor that brought him back, but the unbelievable pain that was thrashing within his skull. The high-pitched whine didn’t help. It was steam forcing its way out of piping, the mechanics in this room were rattling violently.

Shadow in the CornerRunner-Up in The Runaway Train Challenge
A tremor of pain quaked through his body, activating his senses into furious alarm. Before any thought or reason returned to him, the pain in his head consumed his interest, this was all he knew for the moment: inexorable pain. He pressed his hand to his right temple, hoping he could excise the pain through sheer force of will. But, the pain deepened, sending frantic pulses of agony throughout his body.
