The Repair Shop - The home of happy tears
On March 27th 2017 an unassuming new series began, showing beloved items belonging to members of the public being repaired. It featured a diverse “cast” of restoration experts who had mostly never been seen on TV before, all experts in their field. (Jay Blades being the exception, having previously fronted “Money For Nothing” for the BBC.) That show was “The Repair Shop”, the BBC’s sleeper surprise hit which has in its just over five years on air to date, become amongst the BBC’s most popular factual based shows that isn’t the news.

Uncharted movie review
The release of the Uncharted movie sees the seemingly inevitable finally happen. Indeed a movie featuring Nathan Drake as the lead character has taken a surprisingly long time to be released. To many people it seemed like an obvious and natural transition to make, given how movie like the games already are in nature. I somewhat question that logic myself, which I'll return to in a while. A movie was first put in development way back in 2008, the year after the release of the first game in the series Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, in 2007. The development hell it went through from there could make for a tale to tell in itself. Directors, writers and actors came and went. Mark Wahlberg was cast as Nathan Drake from between about 2010 to 2014. Perhaps most symbolic of how long an Uncharted movie has been stuck in development is the irony of Mark Wahlberg ultimately returning to the project to instead play Nate’s older mentor Victor “Sully” Sullivan.

TV review: Pam & Tommy
Pam & Tommy depicts the infamous events of the mid-90s, which deny it as we may try, are around 30 years ago. We return to a time before the internet took hold, used by a nerdy few and very slow to use. A time when going viral was word of mouth and no-one had yet thought to sell content. It centres around the stolen sex tape scandal which took over the lives of the hot celebrity couple of the 90s. Pamela Anderson is played by Lily James in a truly stunning unrecognisable transformation, and Tommy Lee is played by, not quite as lookalike but still very impressive, Sebastian Stan. Both actors are absolutely fantastic in their roles, to the point you have to remind yourself of what you’re truly watching.

Review: Jay Blades' book "Making It"
It's a popular thing for TV celebrities to write a memoir and venture into print off the back of their fame and popularity. This is essentially what Jay Blades has done by sharing the past life which brought him to where he is now, in an autobiography. Jay's book "Making It" is no bandwagon jump though, no cash in tawdry tale cobbled together to shift a few copies. Far from it. He speaks both eloquently and humourously about some of his most vulnerable and painful times, in a way which you cannot help but be moved by, and be swept along on the journey with him.
