Why I Cosplay
"Why do you cosplay?" “Do you cosplay because you’re afraid to be yourself? These are two of the many questions I have received from various people in my life who don’t quite understand what it is to be a cosplayer. So, in this blog, I intend to answer them. I’ve taken each of these questions to heart, been offended by them, and did my best to answer them while I was in the moment. Now, I want to give them a bit more detail and a thought out explanation. This is a blog of my own personal experience as a cosplayer and should in no way define why other cosplayers cosplay. We each have our own individual viewpoints and, while many may identify with how I answer, we are all individuals—different and unique in our own right.

Antisocial Personality Disorder in Lady Lucille Sharpe of 'Crimson Peak'
A Summary of the Case of Lady Lucille Sharpe To briefly introduce the character of Lady Lucille Sharpe from the psychological horror masterpiece of Crimson Peak created by Guillermo del Torro, one might say that terms like “psycho,” “evil-doer,” “whore,” and “main antagonist” definitely fit. However, the genius behind the creation of Lady Lucille Sharpe may go much deeper than she would appear on the surface. When they were children, Lucille and her brother Thomas grew up together and began to relate with one another on a much deeper level than may be expected of siblings. Often abused by their mother, the two siblings soon became the only safe place they could find. As this “safe-feeling” between them grew, an incestuous relationship developed between them. Lucille became vividly obsessed with protecting Thomas, even going so far as to kill their mother when she forced Lucille to kill the child born from the “sin” between the two siblings. After Lucille easily coined her mother’s death as an accident, she became obsessed with managing her image and devised a plot in which she used Thomas to secure brides. Shortly after the damsel’s marriage to Thomas, Lucille would deviously ween the bride’s health from them and secure what would have been Thomas and his wife’s inheritance as Thomas’ inheritance.

Conjikan 2018
This year’s Conjikan was brilliant. I can’t believe how smoothly everything went, how amazing the rest of the volunteers and the staff were, and how awesome all my new friends are! That’s something I have always loved as a cosplayer. The community is (usually) pretty incredible, and everyone comes together and gets what they need to get done no matter the circumstances. I had such a great time that I’m finding myself struggling to put this all into words, but I would really like to share how fantastic this con was and why you should attend next year.

How to Approach a Cosplayer
I am generally a happy, go-lucky individual who absolutely adores and appreciates the loving support of my fans and nerds on Instagram, on TikTok, and in public at various conventions. The reason you need to know this before you begin reading this article is because I need for you to know that I, in no way, wish to deter the affection of those who like and appreciate what I do. That said, there are some things that need to be touched on about non-cosplayers stepping into the cosplayer’s world. I don’t want to sound negative, unappreciative, or, to put it simply, douchy at all. I just want to approach the subject of approaching cosplayers, because the truth is, many non-cosplayers (NC) no longer approach cosplayers or do so, well, in a way that may appear rude to the cosplayer.

Stan Lee
We all have lost something in our lifetimes. It’s undeniable. Something or someone has disappeared from our hearts and left behind a hole, whether small or gaping. By the time we “grow-up,” something has stuck with us for so long that we hold onto it so tightly and feel empty when it is gone. While heroes like Spiderman, Iron Man, Thor, Black Panther, and Deadpool will forever reside within my nerdy little heart, their creator, and, by extension, the greatest hero to have ever walked this Earth is gone. Never again will we witness new, entertaining cameos, new heroes, or new comics from the legendary writer, creator, editor, and publisher of Marvel Comics. At the ripe age of 95 years old, Stan Lee has left this world for the next.
