Wonder Woman has already given superhero fans many reasons to celebrate, and now we have another: Patty Jenkins is officially back on board for the sequel, slated for 2019! The movie shattered Hollywood myths, proving once and for all that a female superhero can triumph at the box office. It was also a stunning success for Jenkins, becoming the highest-grossing live-action film by a female director.

The eagerly-anticipated sequel is already proving a record-breaker, with Jenkins reportedly becoming the highest-paid female director of all time. She was only paid $1 million to direct the first film, but The Hollywood Reporter has learned that she's netting a phenomenal $7-9 million for Wonder Woman 2. What's more, there are also reports that she's due to earn a considerable backend from the film.

It's great news for Hollywood, with Jenkins breaking the glass ceiling for female directors. By all accounts, this pay will put Jenkins on par with DC Film's male directors; Zack Snyder reportedly earned $10 million for his DC movies. It's wonderful to see Warner sign up for gender parity, especially since Jenkins's film breathed new life into the struggling DC Extended Universe.

What Can We Expect From Wonder Woman 2?

#WonderWoman was a labor of love for Patty Jenkins, and the result was a success beyond anyone's expectation. The film grossed $816 million globally, and it has shot Gal Gadot's iconic hero to the forefront of the #DCEU. No surprise, then, that Warner Bros. was keen to repeat these tremendous achievements. Back in June, we learned that Jenkins was already working on the story for the sequel. Geoff Johns revealed he was working closely with her to make Wonder Woman 2 zing.

“Patty and I are writing the treatment right now. The goal is to make another great Wonder Woman film. I had a blast making it with Patty the first time. We’ve got a cool idea for the second one.”

The film is set to explore the heroism of the Amazon goddess against a global backdrop, as she plunges head-first into the danger and intrigue of the Cold War. The era formed the setting for some of the most important Silver Age Wonder Woman stories, so it's a wonderful decision.

Nobody was surprised when Warner Bros. confirmed Wonder Woman 2 at San Diego Comic-Con 2017. The first film wowed the world, and in large part that was because of Patty Jenkins's singular vision. With the film slated to release in 2019, it's clear that the team is ready to start production. It's going to be thrilling to see Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman take center stage in the DCEU once again!
