Though only 25 years old, Demi Lovato has accomplished much. She was an actress in Barney & Friends as well as the Camp Rock movies and Sonny With A Chance. Five of her albums have reached gold certification, and she was a judge on The X-Factor in 2012 and 2013. Adding to the success are numerous accolades, including 13 Teen Choice Awards, Five Peoples Choice Awards and a Latin American Music Award. Most recently, Lovato was honored with the GLAAD Vanguard Award for making a profound difference in promoting equal rights for LGBT people.

To the outsider, Demi Lovato's life seems an inch or less away from being perfect. In reality, Lovato's world hasn't been glamorous. In 2010, when Lovato was only 18, she entered treatment for addictions to drugs and alcohol, an eating disorder, and self harm. During her time in rehab, she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Now, in a special YouTube-only documentary, Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated, the actress and singer gives viewers an inside glimpse into her world, one that isn't all flowers and roses. Watch the trailer below:

In the documentary, Lovato admits that she doesn't know what everyone is going to think about the documentary. She is opening up and sharing a part of her life that no one has ever seen before:

"I don't know what everyone's going to think. One thing I'll never stop doing is being honest, and that's the best I can do."

In the trailer, Lovato says everything in her life happened so fast, and that she wasn't easy to work with — which is different from the persona her fans saw on the Disney Channel. She has now been sober for five years, and in February 2017 she executive-produced a documentary, Beyond Silence, which follows three individuals and their experiences with mental illnesses including bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression and anxiety.

On March 22, Lovato was honored with the Artistic Award of Courage at The Jane and Terry Semel Institute's biannual Open Mind Gala, which recognizes those who raise awareness and help to reduce the stigma of mental health issues. Lovato is growing and changing for the better, and wants to show the world that she is a different person. What better way than through philanthropy and an open-door into her new life?

Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated airs October 17th on YouTube.
